Newbie/need guidance on email from dealer

I have been following this forum trying to understand everything’. this is the response I received from a dealer after asking for their best price on 18 equinox LS. What did I do wrong?? Should I have specifically asked for the selling price? Am I suppose to guess the price, MF, and RV? I dnt want to be rude in my response but I’m a tad agitated and insulted by their response. Any advice to a newbie here?
“For stock # C80008, the FWD LS Equinox, you would be at $337 for 36 months, or $369 for 24 months. This is for 10,000 miles a year, and $0 down. For a 36 month lease the price will change about $30 a month for every $1,000 difference. So C80030 AWD LS would be about $45-50 more per month, and C80015 FWD LT would be around $90-95 more”

You didn’t really do anything wrong, you just need to ask some other dealers for quotes. Remember that as much as you are trying to get the lowest price possible, the dealer is trying to get the highest price possible as well. For both of you it’s about $$. Clearly that’s not their best price, they are playing hardball. Email at least 3 or 4 other dealers with the same question. Take the best price that you get that you feel comfortable with and go back and ask the others if they can beat it. If you don’t get a price you like on the first round, contact more dealers. Also try online services like Roadster and Honcker. Starting with the selling price is a good strategy but you still need to find out what your payments will be, there are many other factors that decide that.

Thanks! I’m just so confused how we last November we leased a 36k traverse for $300 a month at the same dealer. This is $10k less and the payments are more…

The only thing you really did wrong is assume that when you asked them for their best price, the price they gave was their best price. It wasn’t! 9 out of 10 dealers won’t give you their best price off the bat if you ask for it. Occasionally you’ll find a dealer who will but you need to shop around and be aggressive. You are doing right by using email rather than going into dealers in person - that’s the best way to shop unless you know how to deal with their tricks. Keep at it, persistence pays off!

I would call them, email never works for me. Then you can ask for all the info.
