Only if you have another $250/mo to go with it
I am exactly the same situation- in NYC, looking for similar but lighter suvs, Tiguan, Tucson, etc. I had a car in the city (with a good parking deal like $250 per month), but sold it 6 years ago and switched to zipcar.
Have you ever checked any dealers around? I wanted to get some insights. I got a few quotes but am thinking about waiting through the end of this month.
For Telluride, one downside is that you would need to pay extra parking for oversized. Also, NYC parking exemption is not eligible for leased cars… So if you really want a Telluride, I recommend buying it.
I haven’t reached out to dealers yet. I want to really understand the process, the lease I want and then reach out when I’m ready to sign. Thanks for the tip on the exemption.
I was also looking at Sorento - a friend got one 3 years back, paying $370 a month for the fully packed car with only $1200 DAS. As the guys here are saying - nothing close to that now, the best I got offered for EX-L Sorento was $465 with $0 DAS [excluding license and registration].
Switched to searching for Pilot or Ascent deals, currently no luck - dealers are not willing to take down more than 4% from MSRP.
I agree you’re comparing apples and oranges here. A Sorento is not in the same class as the Tiburon, Pilot or Ascent.
A Sorento is a Mid-Size SUV, like the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevy Equinox, Rav-4, etc. So pricing wise they are not comparable.
A true seven passenger SUV is probably not what you want for a “park on the streets of NYC and occasionally use for an upstate trip” option.
There are A LOT of SUV options and plenty with good to decent deals available right now. I’d poke around the dealer / broker listings for your area. Lots of ground work already done for you.
But the first decision is decide on what class of car you want mid-size or full size SUV.
