Once you realize how ridiculous $160k for a base 2026 is, hit me up for my 911 CPO currently listed for transfer. (Shamless plug)
Have a family member who bought a 2025 base at sticker and traded it in for a 2026 4S. Did Euro delivery for the 2026 which was an experience they loved and made the dealer happy to get another allocation lol.
Dealer sells all new 911 at msrp but in state only. For this vehicle it’s worth ordering exactly what you want and waiting for it.
And while the vehicle is expensive, the cost of ownership is what you have to take into account and since the depreciation curve is slower it’ll be fine compared to say a $150k Maserati lol, provided you can afford insurance and maintenance on it.
Though these MSRPs are very different lol
My ‘20 S had a sticker of ~159k, to build that same car today (obviously in 992.2) it would be like 193k lol. The entry price now (for the S) nearly covers the entire cost of my loaded 2020 build.
Ya pretty nuts for what is a minimally diff car. And realistically I don’t think your car would be msrp cpo from a dealer, would prob be at least 10-20k off msrp esp if a heavy spec, if not more.
MSRP here would be a good deal (and I think it can be found without endless effort). Any discounts off MSRP would be some weird build the dealer hasn’t been able to offload.
The lower trims, MSRP is quite feasible. I also agree with Scott - I wouldn’t be terribly surprised to see some of the cars (eventually) at a tiny discount.
People will always warn you about a depreciating car, but nobody warns you about a depreciating life.
Buy the 911.
Your lady is right. Don’t be like me and get a 911.
Yeah, 350/mo here in OC to insure at 5000 miles a year. LOL!
I have a base allocation if you need. Custom build freezes 4/8 with 7/3 delivery, can do MSRP no adds.
For anyone else, I have allocations GTS and down, no add’s, same delivery time frame.
My buddy got a new 911 GTS for msrp in January.
Since they raised msrp so much over the last few years. These days ADM’s seem to only be for GT variants.
A couple things happened that affected pricing:
- Tariffs + increases have pushed 911 prices to where they’re no longer as attainable as they used to be. A 992.1 Carrera S would have been around $155k very nicely equipped, today you’re looking at around $180k for a similarly equipped car. We’ve basically seeing a $20-25k jump over the last 2 years.
- The Hybrid GTS wasn’t well received, because well, it’s different. The GTS is a much better buy vs. the base/S IMO. At least for the 992.2
The two reasons above are putting pressure on the 911 market. Early 2020s, a $100k 911 was possible, so let that sink in. You’re looking at a 50% jump all in.
MSRP is a good deal for an allocation, if you’re buying off the lot, i’d push for 2-3% simply because the car likely isn’t configured exactly the way you want it. If it were me, i’d take the allocation and do a build for the experience. I’d also consider 911 T, S, or GTS. GTS is probably the most likely to receive a discount and T is probably the least likely.
Porsche also had massive EV loss write-offs for 2024 and 2025.
ICE customers are subsidizing those loses.
Does that include Targa 4S?
TBH Porsche messed up with their EV strategy. Everyone tried to pander to the Chinese market, not expecting most of the country to shift to much more affordable brands such as BYD and NIO. German battery manufacturer, Varta, ran into financial woes and Porsche also had to bail them out.
Now Porsche has a problem as the electric Macan just isn’t going to sell as well as the ICE Macan, and they need a bread-and-butter soccer-dad/soccer-mom car for people who want the badge.
718 was poorly received due to 4-cylinder engines, again, to make them more accessible in China where they would have been heavily taxed with larger engines. The EV 718 is MIA with conflicting news every week.
In short, the Chinese market shifted, and smaller manufacturers are getting hit hard. Porsche has been trying to make up losses through increasing the price of the 911, but what they really need is an ICE Macan and maybe even something cheaper to drive volume sales.
Yes, but I just gave the last spot away. I might get some more later this month, but only have a Targa GTS slot for 4/21.
Why is the GTS the better buy then? It’s the red headed step child, it’s the one most people don’t want and thus they have to discount them.
They only don’t want it because it’s new. Porsche mentality is that different is bad, but likely the whole non-GT lineup will use a similar setup come the 994. The 992.2 base/S have seen massive price increases and aren’t fundamentally different vs. the 992.1
The new Turbo S is using a similar hybrid setup, the GTS is a better car all around and from a value perspective it includes far more standard features such as Rear Axle Steering, leather, Sport Chrono, Sport Plus Seats, better wheels, etc. etc. You really just need to choose a color and add the Premium Package.
It won’t matter in a few years when everything has hybrid assist, just like it didn’t matter when Porsche went air-cooled.
Think it’s a bit more complex than that. It’s less reliable , untested overall and adds a decent amount of weight which Porsche people care about. Yes it eliminates turbo lag and that’s cool.
it also basically competes with the turbo as opposed to the S, T or maybe GT3 in prior generations. It’s def different but to me I don’t really know why someone would want a turbo vs a gts 992.2 wise. They’re very similar cars whereas before the gts was the most hardcore non GT 911. Def not the case anymore
