I’m couple of weeks away from lease end on a Hyundai Ioniq 5 2024 SEL RWD. It’s my first time ending a lease and wondering if I can’t get a good deal to convert into a buy, what are my options between lease end and getting a new car (leased or financed)? I’m waiting for a very deep discounted deal on used 2025 Ioniq 5, and don’t see anything in the inventory yet. Please guide me. Thanks !
It’s a bit difficult to provide a concrete response to your question since there isn’t a defined timeframe for when a “very deep discount” on a used car might appear. Perhaps taking someone else’s lease that only has a few months left?
Are you asking if you can buy your current vehicle from the lessor at a price lower than the RV in your agreement?
No.
The scenario where it might (emphasis on might) make sense to buy it at lease end is where the residual value is lower than market value.
Does that answer at least some of your questions?
The way gas prices are trending you might see prices go up on used EV’s, Prologue deals seem pretty attractive right now. If you can get into one of those for the $300’s or any EV in the $300’s that would be my play.
I’m definitely glad we jumped on a LYRIQ loaner in Feb ($329 effective), even though it was a bit sooner than we needed a car.
We’re happy with both of our Ultiums (Ultia?
) for what they are, so the Prologue is probably a solid choice from the Value Menu. Maybe I haven’t noticed but shouldn’t there also be deals on the ZDX?
I love Honda in general, but with Prologue’s EV characteristics, it’s not appealing at all esp. with charging. After using Ioniq 5, it would be quite hard to back to longer charging times.
not quite. I believe I did get the answer from other places though. RV on this lease is around $35K, but the fair value is only $21K, so it doesn’t make sense to purchase it. That part is very clear now. Looking to return this back and get into a new lease.
I don’t rely on DC charging on the regular, but the prologue still goes up to 150kw. My Ariya doesn’t get anywhere close to that. Using DC charging as your primary source of charging is not cost effective.
ZDX is dead - just the Prologue is soldiering on from Honda/Acura (for now)
I knew it had been discontinued I just didn’t realize that there are almost none left.
Is there even still lease support on the ones hanging around?
Not sure. RF still allows the selection of ZDX for model year 2024 but returns no data.
Will Hyundai extend your current lease while you are looking for a replacement?
ZDX was discontinued after 1 year. Orphaned and no deals. Haven’t really seen any new inventory any time recently.
Honda Financial going to take a bath on them when the 24 month leases are up in 2027. There’s been a debate on other ZDX owner forums about buying out existing leases at the end and also some who are picking up pre-owned ones.
I’m one of the lucky ones who really hasn’t had many issues with ours, but there’s no way I would want to be left holding the bag on a 1 year off model esp when the warranty runs out. There are dealers who won’t be SW updates- esp for A11 Radio module since a ton of cars were bricked.
Imagine what service support and Acura only parts will be like in the future- esp when the factory warranty is over.
I am not too worried as long as Chevy Blazer is still around. Almost every part except for exterior is from blazer anyway!
I am worried about the SW updates. As is, the current Acura phone app is dog shyt and hasn’t updated since Dec of last year ![]()
My dealer called and offered $32k while RV on my contract isu $38k lol. I want to call Honda Finance and offer them $10k for the buyout. Under $20k is the right price for a 2yr old ZDX
