Did you ever but used tires? They run around 40-80 bucks with 80-90 tread (because the average car buyer wants new larger tires and rims so the tire store has a large inventory of great tires). I just bought two used Pontenza tires for my Lexus GS350 with 90% tread for $80 cash (19" tires not run flats but those are cheaper since people replace those first when they buy BMWs knowing they will pay more in the future). The tires came off a Aston Martin DB11 Launch Edition (the tire shop had pics). New they are $275 on tire rack not including tax and installation. Same with my last windshield, I had a small crack that never grew so during my inspection prior to turning in I was told by the stealership could replace at $1200 including sensors. I contacted the local windshield replaced truck and they came out and filled in the crack for $50. Since it was covered by my insurance, all I had to pay was a high five after the guy did a fantastic job. Am I cheap or smart? its your call but my last leases have been two MBZ E-classes and Lexus GS350 Fsport and paid what an average leaser would pay for an Accord or Camry V6 EXL. In addition my current Lexus GS350 Fsport lease I get my oil changes at my local Toyota dealership in which I save over $50 on oil changes. The only stuff Toyota dealership doesn’t perform on my car is warranty work. But since it’s a high end Toyota I have NONE for the last 30 months. If you are a real lease warrior you know the best way to save on a lease and maintain it is look for the cost effective options. My wife makes fun of me because she says I’m the cheapest person she knows but I’m the only person in my stanchly neighborhood that drives a new luxury car every 2-3 years.
It’s an option. Actually trying to find a deal on a GLI. Not many left. Any brokers that specialize in VW?
I’ve detailed the used tire game on this forum many times, i’m well aware but you’re missing the point of the OP’s issue. Telling a person with little experience in leasing who is struggling to make a decision on a car over $10/mo to play used tire game, go to a diff place to do maintenance etc is irresponsible. Do you know how many times a pep boys or similar shop mess up even the most basic oil changes? One mistake will cost him way more than $10/mo.
Don’t know which region you are in, you can ask @rubbergash who works at a VW dealer
Tire air is at a premium these days with the tariffs, import taxes, transport, distribution, etc.
I’m in the NYC area. Where is he located?
Nevermind. Just found out he’s in SOCAL.
@nyclife is a broker in your area, maybe he can help
I’m failing to see why $10/mo (or $120/yr) extra on a lease for a prepaid maintenance plan is a big deal – hell it’s even cheaper than DIY on a MB and you get a free loaner while it’s in for service.
8 quarts of oil + filter + new oil seal ring is already $80 in parts and then you have labor on top of that?
Also gas will be more in the E class than In a Jetta. $10 is almost one trip to Starbucks…
I’ll drink my Maxwell House in my Yeti, brewed from home and save $9.50/day. That’s a damn car payment after a month!
I get it. All good points. It’s more a mental barrier than anything.
I mentioned to be a smart shopper in terms of maint not go to a large volume car shop where they don’t know about your car. I think people in this forum are smarter than you referenced.
Yea but not really, you wrote a really long reply basically bragging about how you drive luxury cars for honda prices and what a smart shopper you are even to a point where “your wife makes fun of you”. While this is all nice and prob true, it’s a lot about YOU and not really about the OP. I was trying to help the guy who seemed inexperienced not make a bad financial decision.
Prepaid maintence is not $10 month and residualised. It is added to the capitalized cost. Approx. $1600 or so. Adds around $40 a month to the payment.
When did MBFS stop residualizing PPM?
Perhaps I am wrong then. I always thought you add it to the cap cost. How would you suggest adding the maintenance to the lease calculator.
Add the cost of the PPM to both the MSRP as well as the cap cost.
Ok that makes much more sense. Do you do the same for The acquisition fee or any other fees? Or are they only added to cap cost on the calculator. Thanks
It is definitely not 1600. They discount it aggressively.
