The broker has been great to be fair. Obviously just irritated. I believe he will make this right. They asked to have the car transported within the next two days… INSANE. Going on vacation with my family tomorrow. This whole things just smells BAD.
When did you first contact the broker about this?
Since MBFS can’t divulge whether they pulled your credit or not, see if you can get your credit report to verify for yourself.
Have any of the usual suspects (CreditWise, Karma, Sesame, etc) reported inquiries on your/your dad’s credit history? From what I’ve seen in the past applying for auto credit, those inquiries are added to the report almost instantly and usually come in multiples (The lending bank, the dealer, etc)
Since you signed the contract stating the car needs to be returned within 48 hours if not funded, I would have a plan before leaving on vacation tomorrow.
Yes I got the ping on my report before even flying to the dealer.
So it’s clear that something was submitted to someone. MBFS should be able to provide some answers, especially since the dealer said that everything was good with credit approval.
I called MBFS, gave them my SSN, dad’s SSN, contract number, phone number etc and they were unable to pull up anything. I find that odd. Maybe I was speaking to someone who doesn’t understand how to do anything? Will call again tomorrow. Broker is calling tomorrow too.
This:
If you only had one pull from the dealer, then MBFS never run your credit. So, does this mean the dealer decided that you didn’t qualify?
You should give the car back. I’m not sure what your alternative really is… a lawsuit? Cancellation clauses on these leases are usually pretty broad.
I have 3 pulls on my credit score Dec 22 day I took the lease from 1) MB fin svcs, 2) Mercedes Benz (auto) 3) Mercedes Benz auto
Idk, this is all odd, I’m waiting to hear back from broker / dealer tomorrow
MBFS can’t find your info because they don’t have a deal that is funded. They won’t tell you about a credit app unless there is a deal on the table.
I assume you’re buying a car from FL and used your dad who lives in FL? I don’t know why they would even ask your dad to be on it. I have gotten approved with MBFS with 680 with tier 1 cause I have a long (good) history with them and high income. They tried to bump me down but managers had to make a few calls to get it done. I think dealership rolled the dice thinking deal is good to go and MBFS rejected for some reason.
I would ask dealer to pay for your time and efforts but the tints they aren’t going to pay for since you’re “technically” not allowed to modify a lease car
IMO - MBFS thinks this is a “straw purchase” for your father.
The MBFS person you spoke to does not have to tell you (verbally) why the applications were denied. MBFS is only obligated to send you written notice of the denial.
I assume situations like this are why some dealers do not do out of state leases. I recall a post from about a week ago where the dealer would not release the car until the deal funded. Makes sense when you hear about situations like this.
Let’s not speculate what the folks at MBFS were thinking.
If the deal did not fund, then you won’t have an account with MBFS.
I hope you have a plan in place to return the car. Can you entrust the keys with a friend/family who would be present when the car is being transported back to the dealer?
The more you share, the more it seems to me that since the deal did not fund through MBFS (given your thin credit file), the dealer has “technically” not sold you the car. Hence, it is not yours so it needs to be returned.
MBFS taking the car back. I even applied alone which they denied. They won’t send me any correspondence as to WHY it was denied, however. Hoping the broker refunds me as promised. Will keep you guys posted. This makes zero sense.
They are legally required to send you written notification for credit denial.
Who told you they wouldn’t send one?
They sent me a document that shows me my credit score and that’s it - the dealer. I just asked them to send me the denial letter. Gosh they are playing games.
I would specify that youre looking for the legally required credit denial letter in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Post whatever letter you have received here. It always shows a reason for denial.
Take a photo and redact any personal identifiable information.
This is what they provided me with. I’d also like to note that this is dated December 22nd, which is 6 days after we confirmed my dad and I would be flying into the city to pick up the vehicle and that they confirmed my credit was “A1”.
