MB Lease return - scratches

Hey folks. have 7 months until lease return. Was backing up to the garage with EQS trunk open. Couple of scratches went through paint and to the metal and looked ugly, but I used minimally abrasive polish, towel, hands, and then Dr. Colorchip paint to fill them. MB Star is a little bit damaged as well. Nothing is noticeable from 4 feet away. I could probably buff out smaller scratches that don’t go all the way through.

Is this something I will get dinged for at return? Does MB have a max charge per panel?

Star is easy to replace, the paint you’ll probably want to add some putty and even that out…

Those aren’t scratches… those look like you pissed off wolverine. You’re definitely gonna get charged for those.

It’s a Merc, in CA, men in bear outfits will make those marks for money.

You either need to get repainted or get charged. Unless you’ve got the skill and manual dexterity to fill in with Dr. Colorchip, the damaged will be noticeable.

I believe first class leases have some sort of damage waiver so that might be covered, if it’s just the one panel

yeah Glendale has some bear population. The entire video is even more funny.

Photos make it look like crap, it’s not noticeable from few feet but I got a quote for $400 to get it all filled and fixed which I think is very fair, so I will get it done

Putty??? … it’s not a sheet of plywood

$400 sounds cheap…beware. Do you have examples of this person’s work? You don’t want it to look “repaired” after its repaired.

I did look at 15-20 samples of his work and reviews. Other quotes were around $600

Hopefully it all works out. They’ll still ding you if it’s a poor repair.

I was gonna be charged $256 for deep scratches on the grill but the lease end statement did not have the charges on it. You should just wait for the lease end inspection. The charges were much more reasonable than the actual cost to repair.

$400 sounds about right for a blended repair.

One of the landscapers put a deep scratch on the back of my leased NX450h, similar to this but just one long line.

It was $500 to fix and blend the area and it looks good enough.

I had a crack on my bumper once that was several inches long and it didn’t get flagged. I would wait until lease end inspection. My experience is that these types of wear and tear always deducts less that what it would cost out of pocket to repair. Plus the $500 wear and tear forgiveness if you re-up on another MB…
