Trying to close the deal on a MB C300, and was hoping to get some tips and things to look out for closing the deal from home, and having the car delivered.
-Can you pay MSD’s by credit card? I know you can pay due at signing fee’s by card, but haven’t found any regarding MSDs. Does it have to be a bank transfer?
-Any experiencing having a car delivered to their home with defects? Is it too late upon delivery? Wasn’t too sure on delivery process, if final documents were signed in person.
So far I was able to find on the forum that you can prequalify by filling out a MB application online, and sending a copy of drivers license along with insurance. Please correct me if I’m wrong!
Couple reasons. 1) Hassle in getting dropped off. 2)The only time available to pick up the car is after work, which equals peak traffic in LA. Just like that Takes 1.5 hrs to drive out in traffic, another 1.5 coming back .
have them pick you up. I’ve had dealers pick me up from airport etc. If you tell them you have no other way to get there, they might do it. It’s going to be more of a hassle to deal with an issue of a scratch or whatever else might happen than to sit in traffic. They hit a pot hole and alignment could go bad then you have to deal with that. If the car is around the corner from you i’d go pick it up and make sure everything is ok at the dealership.

LA traffic is a pain. These fellow hackrs just don’t know. Home delivery saves a bunch of time in traffic both directions and having to drive two cars home from the dealership. Plus the time at the dealership waiting for finance.
I vote for home delivery or Cigar shop delivery as I’ve also done in the past. haha
you can “close the deal” at home, do the paperwork by mail and pick up the car at your convenience. You can pick it up on the weekend too. All they’re going to do is send a bored 22 yr old sales guy that’s just standing around to deliver your car. My point is that IF something goes wrong, it’s going to be more than 1.5 hrs of hassle.
As to @BiggL i’m well aware of LA traffic and I know that it’s bad. I don’t suggest to go in rush hour traffic, other arrangements can be made.
If not, go roll the dice on them delivering the car in good condition. You wanted input, that’s my input. Enjoy your new car.

Now let’s say if I sign everything and arrive at the dealership and find a flaw, can I still hold them liable? From a legal standpoint I had always assumed signed is a done deal.
I can’t speak from a “legal” perspective, but they’re not in the business of giving you a new “damaged” car. You’re going to slam them on the survey etc they’re not interested in that. With that being said, these cars go through “prep” after sale before they get delivered where they make sure everything is fine, wash it etc. That typically gets done while you sign paperwork because it takes about an hr or so. So it’s typical that you don’t actually get to see the final prepped car until after you sign the paperwork.
Our dealership allows MSD by credit card but each dealership is different.
As for the delivery aspect: We would pick up people and uber them or various ways but you want to be sure the car is perfect, the only way is to go to a dealer and see it before you drive the car off the lot.
I wouldn’t worry too much if you happen to find a defect/issue post-delivery. I just recently picked up a new C300 (Selenite Gray that hides most scratches in direct sunlight) and didn’t discover a significant cluster of scratches on the rear bumper + a knick behind my left passenger door until I got home that evening. Called my sales guy and he made arrangements to have the repair work done at my convenience without any issue. Dropped the car off the following weekend, no paperwork needed on my end, and the car came back looking perfect (as it should have on day 1) a few days later.
MB dealerships are VERY proactive with respect to avoiding negative feedback from customers as to avoid the wrath of MBUSA which appears to be significant. If for some reason you are not happy, even after delivery, your dealership will do whatever it takes to make it right and ensure your positive survey response.
I’ve found you can usually push back on this in the negotiation and they will budge. With my last two cars I had dealers tell me only X amount could be on a credit card and I still paid 100% in the end.
You can offer to pay the CC fees if you want. I did that with a E550 i got years ago, did my entire down payment on my MB Amex for 5x points on 20k down paid a few hundred extra for the processing fee amex charges but…that was out weighed by the points i got out of the deal.
