MB 2017 Loaner - Dealer: credit was applied already so I get partial Penfed incentive!

Trying to lease a loaner 2017 MB E300. I am a long term Penfed member and I qualify for a $2500 incentive, which works on loaner leases as well. So, on a car of my liking I asked the dealer to apply the discount. He responded that I will only get a $1000 discount because a $1500 credit was already applied when it was first sold.

I don’t get it…its a loaner. Who was it sold to?? and why would a loaner have a incentive during the time of purchase.

Can someone please shed some light? Thanks in advance!

he’s bullshitting you.

Sounds to me he’s trying to make a couple of bucks on your expense

Yeah that dealer is full of it, best to search for another car at a different dealership. Do not mention the rebate til the end of negotiation.

I almost recommended this dealership to the forum…Thanks guys! Definitely not going there anymore…

He is probably telling the truth but not explaining it clearly; and that is probably because he/she doesn’t understand it themselves. It is a winter sales event bonus cash and it may already be applied to the vehicle; if that is the case they overlap but don’t stack with fleet. For example if winter cash is $1500 and penfed is $2500 you will get $2500 not $4000; if he has already used the $1500 from winter cash in the price, he is giving you the difference which is $1000 because they overlap but don’t stack.

Hope that helps if your current situation is the scenario above.

@senwia: The price of the vehicle has not changed in last month or so, so Nov 4th this year (winter sale event start day) is not pertinent in this case. Is it possible the “winter sale event” discount was applied last year when the vehicle was put in service?

EDIT: Just checked Carfax - vehicle was put in service 1/25/2017.

Looks like they’re using the winter money to pad their profit (nothing wrong with that, business is business). Now it’s up to you to negotiate. Good luck.

Confirmed they don’t stack, Senwia’s explanation and advice is on point as always.

My question to the dealer earlier this month: Will the winter sale event help in selling price reduction on the loaners?

Dealer: No it has no effect. The price won’t change there is only about 300.00 of room left.

Move on to another car and dealer, no point in wasting time.

Thanks for the guidance! The car was already priced higher…

You can not combine fleet with the Mercedes incetives

Yes, but if that price he got before the winter sales event was the same as the price now, then he either has room for the additional1.5k or the dealer is BS’ing.

Except, there was $1500 in Dealer Cash last month before the winter sales event - so the price wouldn’t have necessarily changed with this month’s cash. Actually, the delta between the fleet incentive and dealer cash being $1000 is better than it has been at other times in the last 6 months I have been tracking it.

Can you show me where you found the $1500 dealer cash? I didn’t see that mentioned anywhere (or I missed it)

I look it up on autobytel, in their model specific incentives section.

Oh okay, because of all the MB threads made last month, I don’t think a single person mentioned the $1500 cash. I wasn’t aware of it.

Leased in October and the 2500 fleet incentive replaced a 500 dealer rebate. So net was 2k last month.

I have a question and it might sound naive of me to ask it, but i will anyway.

Let’s say you have Mercedes A for $50,000 and you are talking and grinding and you get down to $43,000 just talking. Are you to tell me you are supposed to say ah ha! i have a $2500 penfed discount and i get $2500 off that $43,000 so he has to sell it to you for $40,500 is that what is supposed to go on in the situation?

I saw this podcast on another forum I frequent, I know this is rather long, but its pretty good: https://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/513/129-cars
