So I walked into a dealership to test drive some newer stuff–my lease matures Dec/Jan and I’m considering a pull-ahead deal. This is for a '25 CX-50 Hybrid Premium on a 36mo/10k lease, considering my trade in w/4-5 months left on my current lease.
Besides the numbers on paper I was quoted a .00122 MF and 59% residual. DAS is 1k + first month payment. At first glance this is alot and probably too much to swallow for this car–this is for SoCal, so I also need to factor in my 9.75% sales tax, which would pull this to like $473/mo.
I guess two questions:
is this as bad as it feels? worse, even?
maybe hybrid is not the route this time around–ive heard that both the 3 and cx50 are poor loaners and i’d be better off with a cx5.
Discount seems low. What do you see in broker threads / marketplaces? Are you tied to this vehicle? Have you received any other data points for your trade value (e.g. carvana and others)
Carvana or Carmax are quoting around 15.2k-15.5k as the estimated value but it does have some light damage on a quarter panel. Of course that’s not including any lease payments I have left.
Def not tied to this particular vehicle or even the make model. Open to other brands. Really my main 2 factors in moving on from a sedan is: larger/taller car for my build + more space.
Yeah discount is I think just 1k dealer cash + 1k loyalty without any other considerations. Just seems like this car doesn’t have a lot of incentives, even after visiting random dealerships in my area.
On my list : Honda Prologue (EV I know), RAV4, Tucson, maybe an Equinox. Don’t have to be hybrids
I thought about the 90 but it’s far too large. Single, no kids no pets plus live in LA. I can’t imagine lol. My dad just leased a Tucson adorable the country and seems to like it a lot
Re: RAV/Tucson: Straight up, unless you’re looking at their PHEV variants. If so, the RAV prime would likely be a lease to own candidate to capture EV incentive. For the Tucson, its possible the PHEV is leasing well but I haven’t checked lately.
Otherwise, since you’re open to EV, there are plenty of very affordable options: Prologue, Equinox, Optiq, Lyriq, etc.
What makes you think that? (I say this as someone w/ a CX-5 in the household)
I agree w/ the rec to hold off for now. The CX-50 hybrid is newish, and I think it would make sense to buy the car to begin w/ (Mazdas, outside of the CX-70/-90 tend to be pretty reliable, and the hybrid tech is from Toyota, correct?).
Mazda deals in the northeast are always WAY better than they are in CA. The problem w/ shipping is that it effectively wipes out difference in discount off of MSRP.
this was my initial thought yeah. I started looking around b/c i didn’t want to try and test drive a dozen vehicles my last month so i’ve been getting in things, plus this is pre rebate expiry change so i was thinking i’d be in good shape. wanted to test the market to see what it would be like but its not good lmao
yep the whole drive train is just a RAV4. i WISH it made sense to order from back home and get the NJ sales tax. mentioned in my other reply about my timing but i’m in no rush rn and im like 90% positive i will have my last payment right before those holidays. so i wouldn’t run into any negative equity issues (or could just drop it off and start from scratch)
