I have never leased a car so I have no idea what I’m doing. That’s why I’m here!
I never planned to be here. My pride and joy, limited edition Camaro SS RS, was stolen from my driveway by professional criminals two weeks ago. This has left me mourning the loss of something I dreamed about and about $30k lost from what I paid to what it’s value is today. Talk about a low blow.
So yes, I’m a rookie and I have spent the last 5 days stalking this board to gain some understanding on what happens around here. It looks like I have missed out on a lot of great deals but I have hopes that something else is out there for me.
As my topic shows I don’t want to spend a whole lot as I am still paying payments on my Camaro ($800+) until I settle out with insurance. I have a pickup I’m driving in the interim but my 45 mile round trip commute at 10MPG is not efficient. I need something for 24 months at 15k preferred but I can probably swing 12k with some vehicle swapping with my husband on occasion. I’m not in a huge rush so I can wait if you pros think something better is on the horizon.
Once you settle with insurance can’t you go buy an identical camaro? If not, then insurance needs to either give you more or find you an equivalent one.
What kind of truck do you have that only gets 10 MPG? My V8 F150 gets 16.5 MPG average and I think that an Ecoboost or V6 should be even better. Hell, my F550 gets about 9 MPG, and that’s outfitted as a tow truck.
I would suck it up and keep driving the truck until you find out what insurance is doing.
Unfortunately my car was 1 in 307 so an identical Camaro doesn’t exist on the market. The settlement will leave me with ~$10k-15k cash but I really don’t know what I want next. I’m still really crushed over the entire situation so I’m wanting something low cost/risk to get me by until I’m ready.
Yep, what they ^ said, in time of emotional distress it’
It’s always best to step away, evaluate what’s going on and then make a move. Your alternative would be to get something used that you won’t hate and can sell in few month for about the same money. That way you don’t lose much and even if you do it would not require a long lease commitment.
Not too shabby. I can swing 12k if I coordinate with my husband on his days off to drive his vehicle. The 15k, I know is a far fetch; however, ideal to not have to worry about going over on miles.
Definitely. This is why I’m driving the truck and putting feelers out for something low cost that would run me less than I’m paying for fuel. If I find something I love within the lease term I can afford to have a cheap car sitting in the driveway. I am open to purchasing something older; although, that comes with the risk of costly repairs.
Most recently, the Chevy Cruze has been a steal. Start there. 40 mpg. I am also in Norcal. Lots of good dealers… Capital Chevy, Kuni Chevy, Tracy Chevy…
You’re in Cali? Check out the current electric car deals. Granted they’re not your typical performance vehicles but the gas savings, potential $100/mo deals, and HOV access can make them very attractive. And if you pick something like a BMW i3, the torque is fun to work with.
@reedog117 I’m okay with lacking performance for a while. There aren’t any cars that spark my interest right now and I can’t commit to something expensive that I don’t love.
I tried to find a deal on the i3 but it looks like that can’t be redone. I’m a month or two behind.
@vhooloo Yes, that’s correct. Second nature to me so I failed to mention it.
