Lets talk about age ☕

Discussing a new whip with my old man and to my surprise for the first time in his life he’ll be looking into Sedans for the reason that my mother has bad ankles. My father has always been wildly against sedans for as long as I’ve known him for “safety reasons”. This got me curious to open a thread in regards to: how has your age changed your perspective of car brands or practicality?

TLDR: As you age - how has your perspectives on car brands and/or car types change?

I find myself opting for more refinement and comfort.

Now that I have a family, I don’t want to think about my car. No goddamn time for this stuff. I used to be fine doing oil changes, brake jobs, new spark plugs, and messing with the car. But now, it’s a dealbreaker to have a car not be available.

That’s why I personally think leasing is so cool. Have cars that work without having to think about it.

Unless you’re DJRabbi, and every car you get just eats shit and is in the shop. Luckily he has 10 extra cars.

When younger, it was about speed and performance at all times. Now, it’s more about comfort and luxury (during the week). Weekends still longing for speed and performance

Is it weird that as I get older, I kind of fantasize about the future of captain seat Volvo minivans?

Wait, no, sorry, I think that’s @Ursus

For some reason every year on my birthday I want a red corvette. Strange.

I agree with @holeydonut …i had older sports cars that were constantly needing repairs and that got annoying as I got older so started leasing…went from fast sedans to more creature comfort suv’s (or SAV according to BMW) as I got older. Not to say I wouldn’t go get a X5 M

33 years old here. I started in the car industry when I was 18.

I no longer even look at a daily driver that says “sport tuned suspension”

I like comfy seats/less road noise/good sound system.

When I was younger I hated all self driving tech, now I enjoy it on my commute.

In my 20s I had multiple cars over 700rwhp. Now anything above about 500 at the crank is too much.

Long story short I am old. I caught myself looking at buicks and corvettes

Look at what driving Volvos every day has done to this guy.

I am told the driver’s side Depends changer is a game changer.

500HP+ European wagon in British racing green. And more dogs to ride shotgun.

In my 20-30, prefer German (BMW, Benz, Audi) for handling n power

In my 40s now, tired of maintaining German cars out of warranty, looking at Lexus, Acura n Infiniti for reliability, comfort and don’t mind the reduction in handling n power.

Have not change and hopefully will never be - Love sedan (3 series, 5 series or Lexus ES), small coupe & convertible (TT, SC430). Loathe Truck n full size SUV. I do have Sienna minivan for family trip.

Sure… you’ve been “told”!

And if it’s a Buick… it has passenger and 2nd row changers.

In my older years and wider girth I look for more interior space. Minivans were my jam… I thought they were just for my young kids but now that they drive themselves I got used to the extra space.

SUVs have to be large format sized because the crossovers have smaller interiors. And since I prefer EVs, it’s hard to find something as spacious.

Exterior looks I lean towards chunky… less eggy and lighter paint colors than the all blacks I used to prefer. Also prefer the more mono colors than the metallics but not the matte.

Although I’m not even close to that of boomer age, contrary to @anon65069371 gracious beliefs, I would call myself an old soul.

I’m a car/vehicle lover. Always have been and most likely always will be. I’ve been obsessed and fascinated with since very early on.

I live for the speed, engine/exhaust noise, agility, driver engagement… but I also enjoy the luxury, plush, quite, reserved vehicles. I believe there is a time and place for both; I’m able to appreciate vehicles for different purposes.

Sacrifices or trade-offs (whichever you prefer as a label) must be made from time to time. Kids happen, lifestyle shift, or your commute drastically changes, etc. but I try to view most of those as temporary. For example, I currently do not have a sports car coupe due to kids. I see it as being a bit selfish and the car would collect more dust in the garage than anything (not currently worth my time, money nor effort). Will I have another someday? Absolutely. Its not a permanent shift.

Having said all of that, I have been becoming much cheaper/more frugal as the years go on. (which is a great thing, but also a bad thing lol :face_holding_back_tears:) I’m very much focused on TCO these days whereas years ago I was more apt to simply purchase a car because I had wanted.
