Leasing out-of-state, South Carolina to Louisiana, tax exemption number

I leased a Nissan ariya in South Carolina with intentions of registering it in Louisiana where I live. The dealership said this was not a problem, but three months later I still don’t have tags.

In Louisiana we pay sales tax on the monthly payment and not entire sales price price as most states do. The OMV has said I need a tax exemption number otherwise I have to pay taxes on the entire sales price of the vehicle around $5000, instead of the $17 a month on the monthly payment.

This tax exemption number is issued by the department of revenue to dealers who Are registered with the state automobile, commission, or something like that.

My dealership has been good otherwise but can’t figure this out, I really even return my call lately. Meanwhile, the OMV is charging me interest on unpaid fees.

Anybody have any insight on this?

Sounds more like they assumed this is a Purchase?
Tax Exemption is more like dealer to dealer transfers.

Can you explain this assuming everyone reading is not from either state?

Like what’s the OMV? Are they the DMV of LA or SC?

Why are you mentioning a tax exemption? You haven’t mentioned any reason why your deal should be exempt. You need to explain to the DMV or the Treasury/Finance dept of your state that your lease should be taxed on the monthly payments, not that it should be exempt.
