Stupid question…what are MSDs?

They are a security deposit! Based on monthly payments.
They are security deposits which lower the payment (by lowering the money factor). Multiple Security Deposits (MSD) lower the risk for the bank as they hold several months of payment (each payment lowers money factor a little bit), making it less likely that the lessee will default on the lease. The return on your money (that the bank will be holding) is achieved through the lower monthly payment.
