Autonation Toyota had been wanting to buy my Tundra. Was a lease also, Payoff was 40k and they offered me 41k. Went to test drive the gladiator (Oct 29th) out of curiosity and loved it. I wanted the 80th anniversary for all the standard features like the painted fender flares, AT tires, large display, Alpine stereo ETC. The one I got also had the alpine Bluetooth speaker with the charging dock built in behind the back seat which was cool. among other options like steps and sprayed bedliner. I wanted it in black with a soft top. Only found two how I wanted in South FL with a soft top. First dealer where I test drove it came at me with almost 600 a month which made no sense so I left. Emailed the other dealer that night and they called the next day (Oct 30th). Told them I was willing to pay depreciation only and I know it’s an ugly deal but it’s last day of the month and you can move a unit. They offered 415 tax in with 1k total due at signing. Wasn’t what I wanted but I really wanted the truck so I started driving up to get it when the first dealer called me back. Told them I wasn’t interested that I got my deal. They ended up offering me 399 a month tax in (which is what I had offered them the day before) with just first month total due at signing. He was saying some story that they had found a truecar TDM rebate I qualified for. Told them to get me to turn around would have to be sign and drive. After 5 min they just asked for $100 for tag transfer, which probably just ended up in the finance guys pocket but whatever I got the deal I wanted considering there were no manufacturer incentives on the exact Gladiator I wanted and put 1k in my pocket from the Tundra deal.

Really nice looking… You get a lot of equipment in those special editions too. Only problem is the longer lease term, I know all about how that goes with FCA stuff at the moment.
Autonation had been behind me for a week to buy my truck. Started at 38k and ultimately got them up to 41k. I wasn’t actively looking to sell. I was there checking out the highlanders for my mother and I brought up my tundra and they immediately wanted to buy it LOL. They had no truck inventory new or used. Mine was a 2018 SR5 TRD off road with all the factory options available for the trim. Only 17k Miles. When he got up to 41k told him give me day or two to see what I can replace it with. I checked other places out of curiosity like Carvana 38k, Carmax 37k, ALGO matched the dealer offer but ultimately sold it to the dealer since ALGO had some fees involved.
They weren’t happy but they couldn’t match it either. He said they were probably trying to hit numbers for a manufacturer rebate or something. That they were definitely loosing money. They probably went into panic mode when he called and I was on my way to the other dealer LOL
My paperwork says $4090 due at signing minus $2000 rebate and the $100 I put down looks like they put $1990 out of their end.
Thank you! Yes I would have prefered shorter term but they seem to hold their value very well so if I get bored I’ll probably be able to work something out in 2-3 years. Honestly since the pandemic started I’ve been driving my wifes QX60 more to work than my Tundra. She’s been working from home since March and her company says it’ll be like that until at least next July. Heaviest thing I pull is my 20ft boat so I’ve never needed a full size really. They just leased better or slightly over midsize truck prices so I always went with one. I walked in to look at Tacoma TRD off roads and left with the Tundra TRD off road for $60 less per month LOL.
Treating this one as more of a weekend toy. My almost 2 year old loves riding with the top down so it’s already been worth it to me downsizing. The Fun factor is way higher on this one vs a tacoma or colorado ETC.
Yup. Wanted the soft top for the ease of just throwing it back and sliding out the rear window for full open. In south FL you can have a sunny morning with a 30 min tropical storm and back to sunny again LOL. Faster to put back up in that case. Trade off it slightly more road noise mostly noticeable on the highway. But like I said mostly using my wife’s suv lately since her company has her working from home until at least next summer. Love the look of the hardtop better but figured I’d rarely or never take the rear piece off if I got it.
I thought hard about the soft top, but in the northeast I wasn’t so sure. Hard top has worked out well so far though. I actually tried to hack one that came with the dual top package but that dealer wasn’t budging.
Tundra had way more cabin space and power. The Jeep has more under-seat storage believe it or not. It didn’t take much time to adjust to the Jeep. Plenty of leg and head room. Less hip room. I’m 5’11" 270lbs and I have no complaints. Tundra had a nicer center console area. The infotainment system in the jeep is lightyears ahead of Toyota. Although I do feel like the fit and finish of the interior trim was a bit better in my Tundra. I had to get a new slimmer car seat for my son. I had to place him behind me in the Jeep to not lose the wider storage area from the passenger to the center seat that flips up. Ordered a Dionno Radian 3R. When he’s not in it and can recline almost all the way back to take a nap LOL As far as the power they are two different animals. The tundra is almost 400hp and the jeep is just shy of 300. The jeep doesn’t feel underpowered at all. When I get on it to pass on someone I don’t feel myself wanting more out of it. Feels fine. Haven’t pulled my boat yet. Curious to see how it tows. My boat and trailer should be around 3500lb +/-.
All in all no regrets so far. As I mentioned in a previous post the “FUN” factor is way higher on the jeep. I was looking to downsize back in 2018 from my silverado to a tacoma. Left with the Tundra because the lease offer was much better LOL
