So I found a car that I’m considering leasing with the intent of selling/transferring the lease over in about a year possibly. The car I’m looking at is a BMW 330i Xdrive. It would be a great deal if I can make it happen, but it’s on a fully loaded vehicle. The question is, do people care much about the beginning MSRP when transferring leases ?
For example, a base model can be in the mid to upper 40’s, while a loaded one go mid to upper 50’s. So if I hack a higher priced model, would that mean I would be able to ask more when trying to transfer my lease or would people just be looking at the model of the vehicle ?
The more loaded with lower monthly is better, obviously. Keep in mind that $925 acq fee + ~$500 dealer fee / 12 months = $118/mo extra
So I found a very highly discounted vehicle (again, still working on them actually giving me the right lease numbers) but if it works out, it’s a 52K vehicle that I’m hoping to lease for around 275+tax.
Guess I’m wondering if its practical to transfer that lease for say $375+tax(example) in a year to make up the difference of losses.
I just got stuck in a lease that expires in a year and if I keep driving it, will be WAYY over miles by the end (10-12K) and don’t want to drop that kind of money on paying overages. So figured if I can hack a good enough deal and then make up some money from it, it could be a worthwhile time investment.
The price is set by the captive and you can’t just “charge more.” Some people ask for money at the transfer (kind of like a reverse incentive), but that is for highly-discounted vehicles that are a rarity. Honestly, I haven’t seen any of the 2019/2020 330is for less than $300, let alone a $52,000 one.
Have you looked through recent 330i deals to see what’s possible? Also, if you need more miles because you were over on your old car, the residual will be lower and impact the payment. You don’t want to get 10miles, use 15k over a year, and leave someone with 7,500 miles a year (or even less). It’ll make it infinitely harder to transfer.
Wait, so I can’t actually charge whatever I want when I transfer it? I have to transfer at current lease price? Hmm… So I’d only be able to charge the fee you refer to.
That definitely helps.
As for deals, I have looked at what others are offering. The particular vehicle I found is being offered at that sales price that would get me that low, but I’m working on trying to get them to give the current MF and Residual for leases.
You can ask for whatever you want on top of the lease payment. This is done all the time on this site and swapalease. Just know that it might not go over well on this site since most are well informed.
How do you know that you’ll get to $275/mo then if you have no idea about MF/RV/incentives?
They have to give you the BMWFS residual, or the lease won’t fund. If this is a loaner, the residual will take a hit, however. You would need more than 20% off and loyalty to get to that payment, and that’s without me knowing the tax, doc fee, etc.
Advertised price also includes financing incentives, that may be higher than lease
Roll everything into the payment and just pay first month at signing, at the most. That’s the only way to be sure you won’t be out up-front costs if you transfer early.
So you are right in that I’m not sure they will match the current MF (or advertised price for leasing), I just wanted to check and see if its worth me spending time negotiating with them. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to pay for 2 leases even if I can get this at a steal if I can’t make a bit of money on it later since I have my first lease I’ll be paying for as well.
As for the RV, I took into account (or at least put in calculator) the adjusted one for the loaner vehicle.
And yes, I plan on leasing the car with no money down (everything rolled in). That’s what I did on my current vehicle as well.
Also curious to see how OP is going to get a $52k BMW for under $300/month.
The car I’m looking at is being advertised at 27.5% off MSRP or 23.9% + Lease Incentive.
When I put the numbers in the calculator, that’s what I got. (Again, as mentioned previously, this is assuming they will honor this number as well as the MF for a lease)
Is the mileage over 5k miles?
Did you reach out to the dealer for a lease quote, with a breakdown of numbers (dealer discount, lease incentives, fees, etc)?
I would also post on the Edmunds forum to confirm MF, RV and incentives.
Under 2000. It’s a demo.
I did reach out for the numbers, and they don’t seem too be too happy to give them out. They keep asking what I want my monthly payment to be, so I just sent them the full breakdown earlier today. Will see if they even respond
In the past, I found that when a lot of these salespeople see such a low lease number, they don’t assume its practical and don’t follow up. But I guess it doesn’t hurt to try.
Just get the advertised price with the lease incentives that you qualify for from them, if that is really such a big discount
Fear of low payments is real
Not gonna work. Many before you have tried. The advertised price includes purchase incentives.
And likely every incentive that is offered, including many that no one ever qualifies for. Hell, I’ve even seen advertisements like that that include both lease and purchase incentives that obviously can’t be stacked.
