Makes sense, they are only obligated to sell to me at the price stipulated in my lease.
I’ve seen posts that suggest that in Calif, where I am live, I can buy myself then resell within 10 days and avoid paying tax. Not sure if that’s true, nor if I want to hassle with a trip to DMV if that would be part of it tho.
VW credit do not negotiate on the residual price for buying leased vehicle and it is the dealer from whom the car is leased may negotiate.
They do not run any lease incentive programs or any perks for buyout or lease another VW. They only waive off disposition fee. Again it is the dealer who might have lease return incentives.
Car Buyout through online or phone (VW credit account) do not accept credit card as payment option.
For third party dealers Carvana/Vroom/local, VW credit quotes fair market price for buyout which is usually more than the residual price.
Hello I just leased my 7th VW and very late in the game to discover that I ve been paying a disposition fee upfront every time I lease a new vehicle that is supposed to be returned with the invoice you get after the lease return. (It would be waived in the case that you buy the vehicle or refunded if you lease another VW.)
I started wondering about that because I do not ever recall getting refunded by VW Credit and I ve always returned the cars under mileage and no wear and tear. But I just now read my invoice from the past return a week ago and they definitely did not credit me the disposition fee. I am almost sure that I did not save my past 2 invoices and they erase them from the online system after you return the car so I probably can’t prove the 2 previous ones but I took screenshots of the invoice I just got and there is no credit.
Anyone have experience with this ?
I have never seen a disposition paid up front (and refunded). You normally get billed the disposition at lease end, along with any damages. You don’t pay it up front. If the disposition is waived because you lease a new vw, you just wouldn’t get billed for it.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I did pay the disposition fee upfront the past 3 times - it shows on my lease contract and I have saved all 3 contracts.
When I called VW credit they said this is normal (that I paid upfront at the dealership) and that the procedure is that you get refunded that fee with the invoice of the returned car - if you do lease a car from them again.
However the latest invoice doesn’t show any credits.
I am a little upset that I m just discovering this because I have only saved the latest invoice.
Could you post a copy of your contract that shows the upfront disposition fee? I haven’t personally leased a vw, but I am currently leasing an audi, which is through the same bank, and I did not pay an upfront disposition fee.
Look at the part just above the red circle where it says that’s not part of your payments.
They list the disposition so that you know how much the amount is and what the total lease cost is if you take it to competition, but you don’t pay it until the end. It’s not included in the payment/das amount.
The contract there lists 4 different numbers:
The due at sale amount you paid at signing
The monthly payment amount you pay each month
The disposition fee you pay at the termination of the lease, unless you buy out the vehicle or they waive the fee.
Those all add up to
4. The total lease cost
If you turn in the lease and get a new vw, they waive the fee, which is why you have never been charged and paid that fee separately.
It is not added in the scheduled payments, but it is added in the total payments (Total of Payments : The amount you will have paid by the end of the lease). It shows up as the item 4D. Am I reading it wrong ?
Yes you are reading it wrong.
That fee is paid when you turn in the car, you get a bill after the fact.
If you didn’t get a bill, you didn’t pay the fee.
