Lease exit. What to expect?

Hello hackrs! My current lease (Nissan Altima) is up Nov 5. One payment left plus $395 disposition fee plus $55 excess wear and tear according to an inspection I had done a couple weeks ago.

I’ve been lurking this forum and shopping different cars and am ready to pull the trigger on a jag if I can figure out what is going to happen with my Altima.

Can I just go turn it in, pay my final payment and fees and get it off my insurance and be done with it? Can I transfer the tag to the jag?

Any wisdom is much appreciated!

Did the lender not send you any end of lease instructions? Assuming it was leased through Nissan, it should be as simple as calling a local dealership to set up a time to drop it off.

Given that you are not getting into another Nissan you are probably are going to be liable to the excess wear and tear and disposition fee, as you mentioned. You can turn it into any dealer and they inventory it- and you take the plates.
This might be state specific- But you would then return the plates to the DMV and get a receipt and then you can cancel the insurance effective that date. Alternatively if you acquiring your new vehicle in the immediate future it might be cheaper to transfer plates than getting new plate with the new vehicle
Nissan will send you a bill for your outstanding liabilities which should be limited as above.

Although it is a Nissan so chances are low. It might be worth it to explore if you have equity in your Altima.

Contact your dealer and discuss it with them. Much better to ask them honestly and search for other options just in case they don’t give you better information.

Call Nissan Finance and ask. They have a step by step process that they will point you to.

Trade it in with the Jaguar dealer. They should be able to buy it out from Nissan finance and then you will not have to go through the disposition. Tell Jaguar you need him to buy out the Altima to close the deal.
