KIA EV6 GT Early Exit

,

Hey all, I just wanted to ask the group about what my options are for early exit on a 2024 KIA EV6 GT. Sorry in advance if this is the wrong category to post in for this.

Monthly payment is $540, MF was solid but don’t recall what it was. The “EV LIFE” is tougher for me now with a work shift and our garage far from our house requiring an upgraded electrical service ($6000 quote). I’m looking to go to something with more luxury, comfort, still some power, Hybrid or Gas, either way. I tried avenue of contacting dealers with massively discounted cars (Volvo S90 Loaners, XC60, BMW leftover X3, etc) but payoff quote from KIA Financial is 42k and car seems to be worth best case 37k RETAIL.

Kia also doesn’t allow personal lease transfers I don’t believe, just buyouts (nobody will pay the payoff quote). Simply put am I stuck with this car for 2 more years? Not the end of the world just wondering.

Can’t help with a palatable exit strategy, but is it impossible to get by primarily or exclusively on Level 1 charging?

With the exception of one brief stop each on two roadtrips, our Blazer EV has only been charged with Level 1 in the garage since we got it in July of 2023.

(We don’t put on a lot of miles.)

With the many thousands you would lose trying to exit you could just put in the electrical…

Details on this - upgraded service needed from the street, new panel, run being far to/from the garage, etc?

$6k is not unheard of depending on the circumstances but it could still be high?

It should charge very quickly at a charging station with the right equipment – 15-20 min is probably enough to keep you going (80%), depending on your commute. Not all that different from gas. Have you looked into what is available close to you?

Get other quotes and check for rebates with your utility company. It’ll be cheaper to install a charger and it adds value to your home.

If you can get 37k for that vehicle, take it. IMMEDIATELY.

He mentioned that is retail so wholesale would be much lower. My vote goes to Level 1 charging as well.

Or put L2 on the side of the house and charge in the driveway

Not a bad idea, I always assumed it would be far too slow to do anything but add a few % overnight.

No problem. Essentially our garage is an “alley-based” separate building, roughly 650 sq feet. Our panel inside our house (only one) is maxed out. So you’re looking at upgrading the panel at the very least and digging a pretty lengthy trench, walkway in the way, etc. Or having standalone service installed.

I think I’m going to just order a level one charger. My “Hail mary” is I reached out to a Volvo/Mazda/Infiniti broker in my area just to see if there’s anything gas/hybrid with a little more luxury (power seats lol) that would be so deeply discounted the money shown on KIA could make it palatable. But regardless I’m still carrying neg and that doesn’t sit well with me, I haven’t done that once in 40 years on this planet.

Level 1 is 10% per NIGHT. It’s 1% per hour.

This would be an actual investment as you will get money back on this house upgrade.

All of that work for $6k? You should absolutely do that.

Agreed. Not tax advice, but you still have some tax credits on this.

There is a tax credit of $1k though 6/30/26 for the install and equipment on the EV alone:

As for the panel, $600 through 12/31/25:

So $1.6k in tax credits off of your $6k if you also upgrade the panel as well. Not bad.
