Porsche’s Mission E electric sedan is set to go into production in late 2019, and although many car enthusiasts are hyping the all-electric vehicle as a direct competitor to Tesla’s Model S, the German automaker suggests otherwise.
“Tesla is not a benchmark for us,” Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said at the company’s annual press conference earlier this month. Instead, Blume sees the Mission E as a trailblazer for the mass appeal of e-vehicles. “It will set standards and will represent motion in more than one sense. The only things that the Mission E will not offer are boredom and forbearance.”
Definitely a nice looking car but I have to wonder at the price and I think that’s going to be the biggest determining factor on if they compete or not.
Edit: Fortune has the car at $85,000. Not really the same ballpark as the Model 3. Would we say it’s comparable to the Model S at $69,000?
I saw that article yesterday. His overpromises are sadly starting to catch up. As others start to come on line, he’ll be further pinched.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I think it’s the beginning of the end, or one of the big guys snags up IP at least, if not the entire company
Edit…shares were at a recent high of 357.42 on Feb 26. Currently, they are down 14% from yesterday at 289.50, with a couple hours remaining before close.
Considering, from what specs we know about it now, it’s similar, or better in certain aspects, to the S, adding in price point, I’d say that’s a fair assessment.
