I have decided there is only one credit card you really need

you can transfer points to aeroplan and then book on Lufthansa using chase points. Many ways to book Lufthansa using chase points.

Amex business doesn’t come with “once in lifetime bonus” language ? I need to apply business cards now as I have had almost every personal amex.

I cannot do last-minute anything b/c of the type of work that I do, alas.

The amount of points needed and flight availability was so stinky that it didn’t seem worth it (as in, I’d rather pay the full amount for an economy seat + addt’l cost of reserved seat for the timing that works best for me).

I think the reason why travel cards don’t work is b/c you need to have a good amount of flexibility, and that doesn’t work for me (but would for many).

Oh man you missing out. They do come with NLL if you are using regular links but if you have one already, AMEX sends out new links to you every few months. Just use that link every 91 days, rinse and repeat.

I agree w/ OP. I have a 2% cash back that I use for everything, except for Amazon/WholeFoods for which we use the Amazon 5% card.

I have to put some of my subscription stuff on my other cards to come out automatically otherwise I’d forget to use them and they’d close.

That’s not what I meant. Book whatever you want normally as a backup and book first class or J when availability opens up last minute. Lufthansa is one of the most dependable and easiest to book.

Theres better cash back cards than fixed 2%.

Amex blue cash every day is 3% back at grocery stores (no annual fee)
Costco - 3% at restaurants, 4% any gas station (free if you have a costco membership, which I do).

Is there any way to redeem the cash back, aside from having to visit a Costco? Partner thinks that you can redeem the cash back as a CC credit, if you use the app (I haven’t tried myself).

You just goto Costco and they will give you cash. Citi sends you a certificate every year and you just bring that to member services.

Both BFMR and DealBuyer do Dell stuff pretty regularly. You can just buy United Travel Bank and Southwest has transferable credit now…

@trusted_legacy_group should combine this with the original CC thread. The “one CC” inevitably evolved into a general discussion.

I know, but visiting the Costcos in my area is… not pleasant. So was just wondering if there was another way (and, one year, their scanner couldn’t read the bar code on my phone! Argh).

In Lufthansa’s First Class the captain comes down and individually briefs each passenger on the flight plan!

They had dessert carts as well but not sure if they brought that back after COVID.

Can you elaborate on this? What link?
I have an Amex Business platinum and was told by customer care that I cannot apply for more platinums and receive a sign on bonus.
The sign on bonus only occurs once.

What is there to brief on? We’re going from point A to B…in the air.

You can be targeted for more than one sign up bonus per life for a particular card. We are working on a 150k with $10k spend to upgrade from Gold to Platinum on one of my wife’s cards. She just received 150k points from a Bus Plat either end of 2021 or beginning of 2022. I think Amex “lifetime” is something like 7 years. (I just received 2nd signup bonus for Amex Platinum personal last year - I originally had Amex Platinum personal in 2011).

@Kellstar was talking about all the other ways to cash in Amex BUS Platinum benefits to offset annual fee irrespective of signup bonus. Christmas of 2021, I bought an $1800 projector for ~$600 by stacking referral bonus, Dell $200 Amex credits X2, some 200 off 800 Dell Amex offers by using Dell’s capability of splitting a purchase across 3 cards.
