Was anyone else as unprepared as i was when it comes to people waving at you? i’ve driven about 20 miles and have gotten 10+ waves lol. Didn’t realize it was a thing.

Brings me back to my Subaru days

I thought they were just my adoring fans. Just wait until you catch yourself waving to Jeeps from your daily commuter.

it’s funny because i drive my wife’s grand cherokee pretty often and have never gotten a wave. she informed me that it’s a Wrangler thing?

Yep…I’ve caught myself pulling a wave short when I see it’s a sport. Not culty enough.

Wranglers will absolutely wave to you. I never realized it was a thing either.

Also, getting ā€œduckedā€? :man_shrugging:t2:

That’s exactly the question I want to ask. As someone new to Jeep, I am a little worried about noise and cold in winter/hot in summer. Did you get answers? What is the recommendation for the top (soft, hard, SOT) for dally communication in city and freeway?

None of the options are going to create a ā€œquietā€ cabin on the highway compared to most cars/crossovers, but I’ve found the SOT noise level to be tolerable and something you get used to rather quickly. It is, however, by far the best option for usability and looks/feels very premium.

The only thing about the soft top is that those plastic windows get dirty and then stay that way. They scratch easily in an automatic car wash too.

Were you talking about a low optioned 4Xe for yourself or a low option, gas only Wrangler? I know 1 day in the not too distant future I’m not going to be able to buy a manual transmission anymore. I was toying with the idea of a $45 - $46K Willys Unlimited with a stick. Looks great in hydro blue with all that black trim too.

This is good to know . As a fellow NYC/NJ area person, I visit automatic car washes alot (like most of us do)

ok, this made me laugh.

Soft top is by far the loudest, followed by SOT and hard top. I’ve also had all three and have hot heads liner for the SOT.

My SOT gets quite loud on the highway above 65mph or so. If it’s windy out it’s even louder. I love the SOT but if you’re frequently on the higher or do lots of long road trips I’d lean towards the hard top.

This is my exact configuration, premium soft top Sahara with cold weather group and gorilla glass. The one pay was just under 12k in November 2021 and I’m in process of selling to Autonation today. I am going to order a 2022 and it will be a SOT. I’m frugal and my thought process was, if I’m going to have a wrangler may as well make it as easy to put the top down. Opening the soft to expose the driver/rear passengers is super easy. The rear windows are not difficult to get it into full convertible mode. One thing I do not like about the premium soft top is the vinyl windows, if you look at them very small micro-fiber scratches start appearing. Living in the midwest I wouldn’t dare touch a snow brush on them. I asked my wife how often will she open the top when the weather turns nice, she said probably never. I then asked if we had the SOT how often would you open the top and she said all the time. I’m going to order the exact same truck this time around with the SOT instead of the premium soft top.

This is good to know, thank you.

The soft top rear windows seem to scratch easily. I wash my vehicles frequently at one of those automated ā€œsoft touchā€ car washes, so these makes me want to steer away from the soft top. I do like the easyness of being able to quickly flip it open from front to back.

Seems SOT is just worth it really.

Just as an fyi, what is Autonation offering you on your soft top?

This right here (well, not your wife, but the general thought) is the whole point of the wrangler for me. Something I can easily open up and enjoy the weather and easily shut. I’ve had manual and power convertibles in the past and the power top got significantly more use. Now, add on that I can open and close it while driving? Game changer.

Ok ok. I’m sold. I’m sticking with SOT.

I just had to hear the arguments from the Soft Top owners

Thank you guys !

I really enjoyed our soft top and with how little we used it on the highway, I could get past the wind noise. My biggest issue with the soft top was the back plastic window. It made accessing the cargo area a PITA. Constantly having to unfasten it and get it back in place for groceries, strollers etc. The hinged glass window on the hard tops and SOT provides so much more utility.

Interestingly my gladiator (with hard top) is as noisy if not noisier than the SOT on my wrangler because I have mud terrain tires in the gladiator. If you’re getting a Sahara and leave the stock tires on, you’ll be quieter than a rubicon.

As someone else mentioned, it’s not quiet at highway speeds. I think motor trend measured it at 79 decibels. Get the hot head and you knock it down to mid 70s. I have one and it definitely helps a bit (especially when it’s windy out) but I happen to think the headliners biggest benefit is the insulation from excessive cold or heat.

Your CarMax offer is low for sure. My 63k MSRP Rubicon has 3000 miles and I just got an offer of $58k for it yesterday. I’m in the north east.
