How to approach a dealer on a lease proposal?

Hi Guys, never done a lease and been lurking here for a while.

I found this car on a nearby dealers site and think I can get a good lease deal on, question is how to I start? Should I email them or walkin?

Search this forum for “How to negotiate”

Take the above numbers. Plug them into the calculator. (Your an find the other variables by searching).

Then call them up, ask to drive and then tell them this is your lease number.

Expect them to laugh you out of there…

I was shouted at once few years ago !!

Are you saying they don’t lease certain cars or?

The are advertising $349 0 down for 2018 Gulias, I just asssumed a selling price of 39k on a 43k msrp. which came to 70% residual and .0001MF. If I use the same numbers on this car and change the price to 34k it’s like $110 per month lol.

nvm had my numbers wrong 2018 gulias are 43k on sale for 33k at the lowest. that makes for .0004mf and 59% residual. if I change the msrp to that of this car 47k monthly will be $250.

Check Edmunds for the numbers. Residual and money factor are set at the start of the month

I was close! it’s actually better at 00034 MF and 61% residual

based on that it should be $233 a month!

They will laugh at me asking for this?

Negotiation is easy:

  • Research the discounts ( below invoice not MSRP). Requires a bit more research but well worth it. The information can be found on the interweb.
  • Send numbers or price you want to lease or buy to a number of dealerships. Include in your email your zip code so you get monthly after taxes not before in the quote. I hate when I see low monthly-payments but it does not include taxes and drives offs. For example, $99 a month sound great, but with $3000 down and $1200 drive offs is actually $274 a month for 24 months.
My friend claims his VW Jetta was $199 zero at signing but they charged drive offs which ended up to be around $240 a month for 24 months. That is why I’m glad I found this site!
  • Wait for the fight between dealerships.
  • Never reach out to them until you get responses. If you respond too early then they realize you are desperate and they will stall the negotiation and send high numbers or not respond at all.
  • Take the best quote.
  • Once you like the deal and got it in writing, then call the dealership to arrange pick up.
  • Inspect car, sign paperwork and drive away!

I take it up a few notches and go directly to the GM, get free stuff, car delivered, and paperwork done prior to arrival (if car can’t be delivered). Been doing this since 2003 for my friends and have my own process.

Never ever state the monthly you are going for. They’ll laugh and not take you seriously.

Focus on sale price before incentives. That is literally the only thing the dealer controls (besides padding MF), you know the numbers, you know what’s reasonably possible because you’ve done the homework.

I’d be asking for 36 month numbers on quotes to make sure in the right ballpark (and monthly looks bigger to a dealer), and then when the sale price is as good at its going to get, ask for the 24 and get that deal you want.

Just absolutely do not call up and be like “i want this for $233”

They will be roflmao for at least five minutes. Then they switch to angry mode and shout at you

Thank you for the helpful information.
