How official are quotes that are emailed to you?

Hello all!

I am getting quotes online and through the phone and of course all the offers are vague and not official. :grinning:

Before I head down to a dealership, which could be several hundred miles away, how can I be sure the deal I am offered will be the same when I arrive and they won’t try to pull anything on me?

When I narrow it down to the final 2 or 3 dealerships I plan on having them email me a detailed offer that lists all of the charges and have it match what I see when I sign for the car. If they email me something with specific numbers, will this be good enough to count as something official that they can’t break like a contract? I doubt they would sign an offer sheet with a signature or anything.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Do dealerships typically alter deals at the last second once they have you in the store?

They can change it as soon as you walk in the door. It’s not official unless it’s a contract. That being said, a good dealership will honor the deal they emailed you and not try to confuse and pressure you when you arrive.
