Honda Lease Turn-in

Hackrs,

Long story short my girlfriend signed a terrible lease on a 2015 honda civic while she was in college.

Now it’s time to turn it in. She changed the oil 4 or so times in 35k miles. She has no paperwork except for her most recent oil change and she has no documentation on tire rotation or anything like that.

What can she expect when the inspector comes if she doesn’t have the proper maintenance paperwork? It was her first lease so she didn’t know. Is it possible for me to photoshop some documents together or am I grasping at straws? Thanks

Cool thanks for the response. I know they will call the tires out and I will buy a used set and replace with enough tread. She has a coffee stain on her cloth seat but thats it. A curbed hubcap or two but those things are plastic pieces of crap. Hoping to get out just paying the 2500 in mileage overage penalty+dispo+tires without more surprises. Hopefully they dont care about the oil changes and tire rotation paperwork.

Question for you: Is your gf getting another car after this?

If she is, why not talk to the dealer about getting into a new car if they waive all of the mileage and wear n tear?

From my experience they don’t ask about the service history

Dealer cant waive any mileage. They will just roll it into the new lease. Someone has to pay it. She could get the dispo fee and 500 of wear and tear waived if she stuck with HFS but rolling equity into hondas suck and honda leases suck in general. Thought about not coming up with 3k+ out of pocket and rolling neg equity into a low mf toyota camry or corolla with .00001 but at the end of the day paying 250+neg equity for that when you can get a luxury loaner for the same price doesn’t make sense for us. She is just extending the lease month by month with HFS’ approval and pro-rated mileage until she feels comfortable enough to turn the civic in and pay off the turn-in bill immediately. We don’t care about the 4k miles worth of seat farts so rather not take a full depreciation hit on a new car lease like honda or toyota and go with a 3 series or c class loaner.

I work at a Honda dealer just call the sgs number and they can set up appointment. They will come to your house or wherever. Also if you plan on getting another Honda you will get an additional $500 of excessive wear and tear. If you are over mileage call Honda finance and ask to speak to the lease center and negotiate the mileage. (If you plan on getting into another Honda lease and they will be willing to work with you.

Update:

Inspector came Monday and said there was a lot of little damage but none of it he was ready to charge us for. Even after 37k miles and no frequent tire rotations he didn’t mention a thing about the tires, just $0.

Inspector bill total came out to $0 so now all we have to pay is 11k miles over @ .15c a mile + 350 dispo which isnt that bad considering we thought we’d be paying 1k in damages.

Inspection is valid for 120 days

For anyone interested HFS will give a $500 waiver towards the mileage and waive the $350 disposition fee if she were to get into another Honda, which we are not. They were adamant about not covering all 1700 in mileage overage penalty.

Thanks to everyone who helped

Honda leases are not the best, but have you tried Acura lately ? there numbers are much better and you might be surprised, its cheaper to lease an acura than a comparable honda because Honda wants people to finance their Hondas.

Have a Honda lease going back next week

If you stay with Honda they’ll give you a $500 mileage overage waiver and waive the disposition fee

My question is will they still waive both if you TRANSFER into an existing lease with HFS off swapalease, or does it need to be a brand new lease from a dealer (I’m assuming it’s probably the latter)

I will call HFS and ask anyway, just curious if anybody has had previous experience with this

HFS doesn’t allow lease transfers, so you can’t swap into a lease.

Thank you @Jon 202020

Try taking it to Carmax and see how much it is worth. Honda’s normally have realistic residuals.

I feel like a 2015 LX with 7k of front end repaired damage wont fetch the residual of ~12.5k, but you’re right it might be worth checking it out considering the final bill by HFS is almost $2500.

Crazy they didnt charge us for a thing other than excess miles and dispo, even with 40k miles driven on the tires.

if you have an accident on the carfax don’t bother with carmax, they will lowball you and dump at auction because it doesn’t meet their criteria for resale on their lot.

Thank you @305Hackr, I suspected the accident in combination with the old body style would make resale out of the question

the accident alone killed your ability to sell at carmax at or above your residual value. If you have time you can try to sell privately but it doesn’t sound like you do. I’d still put it on CL and see if you can sell it at a smaller loss than what it will end up costing you after all the overage fees.

I just sold '16 Honda Civic EX-L to Honda dealer. I was 16 months into a 36/12 lease. Car was spotless with only 13K miles. Lease payoff was $18689. They gave me $19K for it. This was a zero out of pocket lease.

'16 is the new body, correct? Carmax wouldn’t value the old body much and its resale values are a lot lower.

No point in taking to Carmax if the car was in an accident.

no new body current generation is 2018 and up.
