While I’m glad Honda is trying something new and interesting design wise, I think the sedan’s exterior is pretty HEINOUS. Comments indicate that many like it (which I find very confusing).
I’m also confused about the dimensions/proportions, b/c the car looks pretty production-ready (eg., realistic side mirrors), but the wheelwells look HUGE.
The SUV is blandly pleasant-looking. Glad to hear it’s a hybrid, since I think Acura desperately needs one…
If you squint, the Accord looks like a Urus to me haha.
I’m still bummed Honda is delaying the next generations of all their models until 2030 due to their EV losses. I need an Odyssey with surround cameras.
With the delay to 2030, the Accord we see here is probably not what is entering production. If it was substantially done they would roll it out before the 2030s. If not, they will almost certainly change it when they resume designing it.
This is why I’m confused why Honda showed it. The sedan (why can’t they make it hatch???) has what appears to be a screen above the dashboard cowl, just like a production car (who knows if the rest of the unseen interior is more fanciful, but I’m kind of doubting it). This doesn’t just appear to be a design study. I’m assuming that this production ready, but 4 yrs is a loooong time to wait.
Perhaps this is intended to be the Accord and, if Honda might not release the car for a few yrs, they’re trying to gauge early reactions (in case they do to do an emergency make over)?
As for them rolling it out before 2030 if it were substantially done… I don’t know much about auto manufacter’s cashflow and such, but perhaps they need to re-tool the factories to make this car and want (needed) to take a pause on that? So, if reaction is positive, perhaps they will freeze the design and simply wait until the finances improve?
As someone who will be purchasing a minivan to replace our XC90 T8, the lack of updates to the odyssey is disappointing. Prob offers the best seating versatility, but I can’t get behind the horrid electronics (& outdated engine options).
Yes my wife loves the Odysseys and has never had surround cameras so doesn’t know what she’s missing.
I’ve heard the Sienna 4 cylinder is a bear though. That’s the one nice thing about the Odyssey is that the engine is decent for the class and size of vehicle. Have never driven the Chrysler or Kia.
Is the Odyssey engine outdated? considering the resurgence of gasoline engines (in USA) a tried and true V-6 design seems to be the right choice. Does the odyssey warrant a Hybrid 4 cyl? or electrified powertrain just for the sake of change? only if you are trying to capture the “I need something new” market.
Face it, this is a box in the wind designed to hold 6-9 passengers or a ton of cargo, how efficient should it be? considering real world vs non real EPA figures?
Given that a broker on another thread mentioned that Toyota can’t seem to produce enough Siennas, it would seem that the “I need something new” market is quite a large one.
Also, for moving people and cargo around in the city or in traffic-y condition, I imagine a hybrid would actually significantly more efficient than a V6.
I was thinking Lambo blended w/ Prius, actually!
My very first thought, though, was that Honda and Hyundai seem to be cribbing from each other (see the Venus concept, which made me immediately think… Lambo):
We had a similar experience with the MDX, with the same Honda/Acura V6. Got significantly below rated mileage in the city. It’s a good engine but very thirsty in real world driving.
Honda could always put in a hybrid like that in the telluride/palisade with 300+ HP and torque. You just end up giving up a little fuel efficiency versus knocking HP down to the 240s. But still a big fuel efficiency improvement versus the current model.
