Help understanding what to offer a dealer on a BMW i5 company car

Perhaps, I’m not sure. These are the things I’m trying to figure out so I know how to approach the dealer. I reached out and should have some information from them by tomorrow.

Can anyone confirm/deny this? The brass hats were all the rage here pre-covid. @IAC?

I’ve noticed it specifically with the BEV models. We cannot CPO them.

Interesting! Can you lease them though?

No, they’re previously owned.

But so are the loaners. Carfax always shows that the dealer took title. Isn’t it the same?

Not always.

I’m looking to transfer out of my i4 lease. Please reach out

Hmmm, cannot recall any that weren’t like that in CA. Are BMW brass hats still mostly if not all titled in NJ where their HQ are? Does that make a difference with NJ EV generosity?

Here’s a snippet from one of the Carfax for a Brass Hat i4 at the San Luis Obispo BMW showroom

That corporate fleet status and way it moved through auction seems to exclude it form leasing by BMWFS. But maybe USBank or Ally can still lease it. Just seems like a tougher route to follow for any prospective buyer.

But the good news is the cap cost of the vehicle is already bagged due to the $7,500 EV rebate. It seems BMW sets a very low reserve for these and the folks at auction snag them for a song.

So whether you buy it or lease it through a non BMWFS lender, the $7,500 savings should already be there.

Still don’t see how it’s different from the old days or loaners where dealer takes title… Unless it’s a new EV related matter being titled in NJ.

BTW, going with Ally or US Bank will negate some loyalty/perks with BMW FS if churning BMWs.

My guess is that on EV, corporate is getting the $7,500 to get the vehicle’s existence originated into whatever corporate program uses the car. Then they make sure to turf it as used-only to prevent someone else trying to double-dip the $7,500 when they lease the car again.

What confuses me is why they won’t CPO a brass hat. I guess it’s so low miles they don’t care to offer the program.

Yeah, there’s possibly something else at play that we don’t know about.

Well the update is the “brass hat” i5 can not be leased. Since I’m only interested in leasing at the moment, that kills this one for me. Back on the hunt!

If it was like any of the ‘brass hats’ I was around, you don’t want them long term. Which is probably the exact reason BMWFS wants to wipe their hands clean as quick as they can.

Screaming redline in a pre-production E90 M3 with stone cold oil temps comes to mind…
As does Chinese fire-drilling a partly camo’d E71 X6M so everyone could try launch control…
