Hi everyone, as I am closing in on a deal for a lease, I was wondering about sharing stories/strategy of going into finance to sign. What have they tried to sell you on? The paint protection, the maintenance plan, anything like that. And what do you think one should generally do? Just decline everything?
Depends on what is important to you. Can always say no.
I usually just say no to everything. They will try to pressure you and be like “ru sure?? Blah blah”
Also keep in mind if you plan on not going the full term of the lease(like I usually do lol) then you will just be wasting money on the protection packages.
Also if there is a package you like, they will likely be able negotiate the price down for it.
Say no twice and watch them cut the price of the extras in half. Then decide if you want them.
What kind of stuff do they offer? I leased my car right before going to grad school so I said no to everything so not sure what they were offering, just knew I was not gonna do anything to add to my payment.
-Upgraded Maintenance Plan
-Lease protection
-paint protection
-tire and wheel
-Key protection
“You name it we got it!”
Most places have a 1 page showing what is offered
Tire n wheel is a good one if you have one of those cars which has low profiles or expensive wheels. Basically most Bmw, Benz, Audi, etc.
I wouldnt worry about that on most other brands.
what does that cover or do?
The finance guy has probably had years of experience in dealing with “no”. Just keep that in mind and ensure you have the buy rate on the MF, before getting to finance. I had a KIA dealer squeeze me into a maintenance package by adjusting MF before I knew any better.
Another thing if he won’t take no, is to accept the packages, and then call and have them removed and refunded when you leave his office. Keeps him excited while you are there, and pisses him off when you are long gone… Just make sure they are all refundable in the first 30 days before attempting this.
Man really? What can they do, how can they not take a no?
Take the lifetime blinker fluid flush and fills, only if it’s under 1,000. It’ll save you a ton in the next 3 years.
Okay Jigsaw let’s take a breather ![]()
Ooh, I wish I got that joke, I am sure it is hilarious.
Speaking of scams, how goes the scams with airbags and lemon law buybacks? I have friend up here that get’s asked to trip them almost weekly. Seems to be pretty profitable for some of the folks living in Glendale.
Movie reference from Saw, “wanna play a game”
Not to sure that’s more service side, never dealt with those first hand. From my understanding most manufacturers are putting a 2nd look on those.
What kind of car are you getting?
There are a million different providers of these plans. You cannot make a categorical statement about what can always be done.
I’ve come out way ahead over the years declining tire and rim protection for BMW, Benz, Audi, you name it.
When I was leasing my S5, she tried to convince me to buy some package costing $110 per month saying that the rotors go bad after 30k miles and that I would have to spend $3-4k to fix them before returning car + other damage… I asked her why I am buying a $70k car if that was the case…
that being said, I ended up getting the wear/tear package because I am a rough driver and dont want to be charged for under-bumper damage or scratches or dings that can happen from rocks/etc on highway
Depends also on the road conditions of ur home city as well. TW package should be mandatory for Houston buyers
