GM's Lordstown Plant, Home of the Cruze, shutting down

They’re the favorite per Vegas for AFC North . . .

Looks like Lordstown is getting new life…maybe…

Maybe…guarantee the UAW throws a fit if they don’t make it a union shop.

The “workhouse Group” is chasing the UPS mail delivery contract. If they get it, That contract will be for ~180,000 units built over 10 years. or 18k units a year.

For comparison, GM built 140,000 Chevy cruise vehicles last year alone.

So no, this facility (under the workhouse group) will not be anywhere near the scale of the GM Lordstown operation. many of those UAW workers will still have to find something else.

Realistically, Lordstown will probably never be as big as it once was years ago, but at least it’s something assuming the deal eventually closes.

You could argue that Lordstown was churning out more units than it should have for a very long time. After all, how often did we see those $100/month leases on them for a while. Can’t imagine that was profitable for GM.

Yeah, they lost money on every lease.

But they made it up in volume !

I swear the only people who can make the UAW look good are GM management.

Their contract has provisions for both closing and idling the plant. It’s obvious GM has idled the plant and wants to close it. But they’re calling the plant “unallocated” and denying the benefits that are due in the contract. Which is just going to lead to both sides wasting tons of money on legal costs. Morons
