Fun/Project Cars

Been eyeing this thing for the past few days, would be a fun beater car around my city

Yes! I love mini but don’t know how to drive a manual.

I’m not perfect at it, but feel like it would be a great platform for cheap to perfect it

It would! This is the base non-turbo, but I cruised the streets of San Francisco in a Clubman version, and yes, I caught some air on occasion!

How are these newer ones? The first gen Minis were notorious for being unreliable weren’t they?

Mostly Turbos…surmised they initially tried to beef up the Peugeot engine to handle the extra stress for the turbo with mixed results. "Death Rattle’ was an issue on turbos, due to a weak chain tensioner not taking slack out of a stretched timing chain. Was about a grand to replace chain/tensioner at the dealer. The NA bases gots lots of miles…I had the leading engine with over 260K miles before it died in 2015, post is still up on VVortex. ‘Who has the most miles…?’

edit: I also recall high pressure fuel pumps(HPFP) lasting only a few years for some reason, weren’t too outrageous to replace. Again, NA Base versions didn’t have HPFP.

VG30 is an interesting motor, have fun

Tempting lol, even could pull the engine for a swap and then part out the rest and do pretty good

Salvage title.

for a fun/project car it doesnt matter. I also found this

I disagree but we can agree to disagree.

Despite the miles, that price actually seems somewhat reasonable. Not sure if I’m just disoriented because of how nuts the market is right now though.

For which car? I personally think the foxbody is high and the 240 is reasonable

The mini cooper

What am I missing? There are non-salvage, lower mileage cars for the same or less.

These are really growing in popularity. They can look really cool when restored. Never driven one though so I can’t comment on that.

just a local car I found, not saying I would buy it

My go to cheap, fun car is always an NA Miata. I have one being delivered tomorrow actually.

I’ve been looking for a clean manual NA Miata … any suggestions where to find one?
Most have been tuned and driven into the ground.
