Unlike some previous iterations, this seems pretty fair and reasonable to me FTC reveals new rule targeting auto dealership scams that hurt shoppers
Don’t see how this would ever be enforced, they will find other ways.
most don’t sell Nitrogen anymore.
Forcing them to disclose Msrp as a line item and separate the mandatory and non mandatory is a start and forces them to say “you don’t have to buy this to get the car”
The article states
Lupo said that after numerous phone calls, she was able to cancel the extended warranty on her son’s car but that it took a lot of work. And her son is stuck with higher monthly payments over the life of the lease.
If the extended warranty was included in the loan amount, the monthly amt does not change, but there are fewer payments overall, correct?
Either the author of the article or Lupo failed to explain what happened to the refund, assuming there was one.
If any refund was credited to the loan balance, that would shorten the term. If the consumer received a check, that could be used toward future payments.
Either way,. why couldn’t they find someone with firsthand experience?
They’re quoting a helicopter mom of two presumably adult consumers, who more than likely have internet access (and index fingers) available to research how this works before spending tens of thousands of dollars on a luxury purchase like a new car.
Been a while, but as Nitro is phased out…the new scam, Cat Vin Etch
As if you get your Cat back after it’s stolen
Hendrick’s Lexus dealership here in NorCal requires any Lexus TX 500 or 550 to have a $300 Nitro charge and pay an extra $700 for PDI. You elect to pay it when you put your $1,000 to get in line for an allocation.
