Except you’re locking yourself into a lease that’s double (or more) over all the $200-$300 cars out there
so FSD is more like $399 a month and only $99 of that is on/off.

That’s an interesting way of looking at it, kinda true if FSD is the only functionality OP is looking for.

I think you may have misunderstood me.
When I mentioned FSD being $99 on/off monthly, I was replying to the person who said the price would be much higher. I was just clarifying that point.
Just want to give a BIG thank you to everyone here and especially to @Z0lt3c for the tips. 
I got in touch with a Tesla rep who was able to find me another car. No extra credit pull, no additional $250 fee. End result? I shaved $55/month off my lease and will be picking up the car tomorrow! Plus, I scored the $1,000 Lyft credit.
Only difference is the color: from black to gray.
For me, having FSD is important.. I get it’s not for everyone, but it makes sense in my situation. Super glad I came here and asked before signing yesterday… because this community literally just saved me about $3,000.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and its wild that you are speaking like you do. The latest versions of FSD are extremely capable in all situations. Sorry your 2018 sucked but its 2025 now.
Inform yourself and do some research, plenty of live FSD videos of very challenging scenarios like NYC during rush hour in the rain completely hands-off with no problems.
Its not 100% perfect and you can’t take a nap, but to pretend like its non-functional is incredibly uninformed.
There is no competition, nobody in the same league, nobody is even playing the same sport.
It’s wild that you signed up to a forum just to defend a brand with so much zeal, on a thread where the decision has already been made and any further input is moot.

Welcome to LH. That’s quite a first post.
I’m not basing my assessment of Tesla “FSD” on just my own experience. I get that I have older hw. Some things are surely better with newer hw. I’ve seen and read stories from people that have experiences that make it seem magical. But the reality is that it’s not always like that. Plenty of those vids to be found online too.
It’s not truly SD, and with this hardware, it never will be. I believe even the head dude has made that admission.
Just trying to make sure people have the right expectations going in.

Yeah, i won’t take a nap in it. But hell yeah you can take a look in your cell phone safer than without Tesla fsd.
From Tesla dealership to my house I didn’t touch the steering wheel. 7 miles out on a raining day, heavy traffic, school zones and small streets(for sure I was paying 100% attention on the road).
But if you tell me that this is not a FSD, I’ll be forced to ask ya what is it then?
Nothing is. In case of FSD, it isn’t FSD for same reason Robotaxi isn’t Robotaxi. You gotta have a human being in the driver seat “paying full attention” for both to work.
As far as feeling safe to look at your cell phone at freeway speeds, I’d take a car with radar anytime.

Everyone knows FULL self driving is not really FULL self driving. It may be the best ADAS out there but it is NOT FULL self driving.
