Greetings Hackrs, I am looking to lease an SUV and have a few questions during my research.
Goal is $250 a month, $0 down / 7.5k / 24 (or 36) on an SUV. Ideal vehicle would be a 2018 Tiguan SE w pano sunroof, but more likely will be looking at 2017 Tiguan S or the new Limited as those numbers seem more likely. Also considering competition as VW doesn’t seem to have the best deals.
I am prepared to wait until end of November, and even December for a great deal on a 2017 or even a 2016 loaner.
Now here is where my situation is a little different. I will only put max of 5K miles a year on a car, maybe less. I live in LA and commute < 5 miles on a scooter now, and will ride that a few days a week still. Just looking for a car for rainy days, doing some weekend road trips w my son, etc.
I can forsee that even with 7.5k mile / yr lease, I will definitely wind up with extra miles. Can I plan to sell the car to a dealer before end of lease so I can make something back on the remaining miles?
How would this affect my choice of manufacturer / finance company etc. Are there some brands that do not offer 7.5K leases, or anything to watch out / plan for at lease end? I am not a great negotiator so will plan to use a broker or the Honckr app.
Also, was looking at Swapalease and there are some decent deals on < 12 mo leases, with say 5K miles current, and 25K left (not sure if I am allowed to link to them here). Seems like I could drive one of those for 10 months, and sell it to a dealer for a small profit seeing as it would have 20K unused miles. Roll that into my next lease and have even lower payments or use as MSDs. What am I missing?
I’d look at the Nissan Rogue Sport, Toyota Rav4, Hyundai Tucson SE, and the Jeep Cherokee. Most brands don’t allow the 7.5k lease and the base is 10k. (nissan is 12k). It’s more of the higher end brands that have the 7.5k option.
Never plan for this 90% of the time, even with extra miles, the car is worth less than the residual. Then you have to factor in the tradein hit. I have seen very rare cases where people have ended up ahead, mostly with honda. Don’t ever plan on having money at the end of a lease no matter how much you drive, if you have extra great, but don’t plan on it.
Thanks for clarifying that 7.5k mile leases are only for high end brands. Was wondering why the LH Calculator didn’t give that as an option.
I will keep my eye on those models for incentives over the next few months. Previously owned a 2001 Rav4, got rid of it when it had transmission issues @ 90k. I am leaning towards the Cherokee, and there seems to be decent deals on those right now. Going to do my research and see whats out there.
Sound advice on the RV as well. I think I was getting ahead of myself, I have a few years until that even matters.
