Just highly biased information not grounded in reality. Having now owned 5 EVs over hundreds of thousands of total miles we’ve had one “stranded” moment when the 12V battery on our Fiat 500e died at our house. Our EVs have in general had far fewer issues than our ICE cars, and we’ve been EV only (for daily drivers) now for three years.
The correct answer is that it depends on the model, like every other car. My BMW 1M had a high pressure fuel pump fail, blew off intake piping twice and had the 6 speed replaced under warranty. The Model 3 dual motor I replaced it with needed only tires and a 12V battery despite doing more miles. Get something like an early Lucid on the other hand and don’t be surprised if you need a flatbed.
I think I was just called a dumbass by someone who leans on a GLS for reliability lol (one i4 m50 possibly coming in, one 530e possibly coming out). Hmmm…
EQS was always in the shop. Teslas always shitting bricks and shutting down. Taycan was out for 2 weeks already. Escalade also had some weird charging error.
Most EV superthreads on this site have dozens of EV posters praying for snowy off-ramps or lemon status.
EV are trash appliances meant to be replaced every 2 years. That’s why yall keep cycling them and want them only if they’re dirt cheap.
We all love cheap cars here, but don’t conflate them as good cars.
So why didn’t you buy a Lexus SUV then? The problems on both of my EQS were related to safety/braking/electronics and software that had nothing to do with charging or battery. Don’t suppose those electronics are much different on their ice cars. Most German and US cars are disposable computers on wheels, not just EVs.
EV is a new tech, and sure there are some which has issues - ex: etron with its coolant leak, Hyundai with its ICCU failure. But to claim ICE more reliable is silly.
What ICE had is more infrastructure, expertise, aftermarket parts and indie mechanics to diagnose their issues. What will you expect comparing 100+ yo tech vs 10 yo tech?
And as other has said, if reliability is your main issue, get a toyota.
RIP, they were one of the best values of the EV tax credit era and I have two of them in my garage now. Well one really, second one has been in the shop for a 40 days without any seeming urgency by Acura to get it fixed. Doesn’t matter much to me, I have had a loaner RDX for the whole time and was over miles on the ZDX anyhow.
The one in at the dealer is going to be an especially good deal since my Acura manager contact said American Honda’s strategy has been to fight lemon law claims tooth and nail but offer generous settlements and that I should shoot for $10K.
@9benua they are rebadged Lyrics so anything you hear about the Caddy version applies to the ZDX too - except the Acura has CarPlay and android auto. I really like it for highway driving, especially the version with SuperCruise. I dont like it for its $75K MSRP but of course the lease value proposition is why I have two.
