EV premature tire wear?

I complained to the dealer that the same tires have 45k warranty (vague though) in their websites and mines are worn down at 18K miles. I was told tires that came with the vehicle don’t have warranty.

I don’t think it matters that it’s an EV or not. That’s what they like to tell as an excuse. In reality, the OEM tires that EVs come with are crap, and start at 8/32, so manufactures save money on mediocre tires and then are happy to sell you another set for extra. The Bridgestone Turanza tires that commonly come on EQS and BMWs only go for 10k miles or so, and have no mileage warranty, and start at around 8/32 thread new.

Saving the environment… one tire at a time

Haha, right?!

Good point. No wonder - my tires looked worn when delivered. Had no idea they were like that from the start.

Just want to provide a data point and also ask questions here.

My 2023 EQS has 15000 miles and the tires are all need to be replaced.

It comes with Goodyear F1 tire, but the official website (www.mbusatirecenter.com) has no such tire, only Goodyear Eagle Touring or some other brands. So I can buy Eagle Touring tires anywhere and install right? Do I have to buy the same tires listed on the website? Currently I’m planning to buy from Walmart which has the lowest price I can find. Any other recommendations?

Also I’m not sure if my original tire is run flat (It only has Goodyear f1 asymmetric 5, no other words such as ROF).

May I know how to check if the tire with EQS is run flat or not? Mine is Goodyear f1 asymmetric 5, no other words such as ROF. I went to Costco today. They have no idea but said it must be a Run Flat tire as there is no spare tire in the car.

Look it up on tire rack.com
If you’re leasing, you need to know exactly what you got or you may get charged upon return.

Thanks! It is a lease.
Walmart has lower price than tirerack, for the Goodyear Eagle Touring.

The move on most EVs is drive your original summer tires for 7500 miles. Then, swap them for a longer lasting all season and throw on the original summer tires at lease return.

It is stated on the side of the tire. Along with tire wear rating. I has 2023 EQS with 22 inch rims with summers and they were NON runflat and there was no spare tire either, just a can of useless tire filler in the trunk. Also wear rating of 200 (lower - faster tire wears out). Had 7000 miles and rears were 3/32 at lease return. I did not do any pre-return inspection, it was done without me by dealer and I got no wear charges in the statement.

Now I have EQS with 21 inch all seasons runflat and 500 wear rating that hold way better. 2500 miles, rears are at 8/32, fronts 9/32.

I didn’t say to buy there, I said look up your current tire so you know what you got if cannot figure out otherwise.

My turn to complain… 15k miles on the Ariya and front tires are completely gone…

Buy any run flat tire and you can also get a used one that’s more than 4/32 thread

I have an update on my EQE SUV premature tire situation.

I contacted Mercedes Benz head office via email to report the premature tire wear on the OEM Goodyear F1 asymmetrical tires. Finally, the case manager got back to me and asked me to go to my local Mercedes Benz dealer and have them measure the tire wear. He then liaised with the dealer and called me and offered me $1000 towards tire replacement at said dealership.

Now the issue is deciding between two tires: Pirelli Scorpion Zero Plus 3 and Hankook Ion Evo. The price difference out the door is $600 for 4 tires. Anyone have insight on either tire? Are the Hankooks really $600 better?

I use the Ion Evo’s to replace all my OEM tires. Highly recommended, strong performance in all weather conditions, quiet and yield great range. However, they also wear our fast…

OTOH, I’ve never seen Hankook cost more than Pirelli’s. I usually pay around $250/tire for the Hankooks, depending on size. Hard to comprehend how they are $600 more. If you want to go Pirelli, make sure you are looking at an ELECT model (eg Pirelli Scorpion Zero Plus 3 ELECT).

Thanks! I’m looking to get the OEM tires for my vehicle and the Hankook and Pirelli tires above are both listed.

The Mercedes-Benz tire center has buy three tires and get one free on the Pirellis at the moment hence the price difference.

2023 EV6 GT. 9k miles and 14 months on the stock Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3 tires including a fair amount of aggressive curvy road driving, regular 300+ hp pulls on highway acceleration, and 1 autocross involving a lot of tire squeal and even 4 wheel powerslides. Still got at least 2k more highway miles in em, and when they’re done I’m buying Michelin PS4S or PSS5 to replace them.

Is it a lease? If so, better buy Michelin PS4S or PSS5 now and enjoy them, and then put your goodyears back to return back at lease end. I’m sure your PS4S will last at least 30-40k miles vs 10k on your stock ones.
