Back to the tax credits. I hear there is a senator putting new legislation together to go after 45w, as well as 30d/25e. Apparently the loophole for leasing was not fully accounted for by CBO. More than 70% of EVs sold in 2024 were leased. CBO did not expect auto industry to exploit the “commercial” aspect of 45w. Their cost estimates were way off. Full audit has been requested from IRS for total dollar value of credits, original sticker of vehicles, demographics of buyers, etc.

LOL. Gee who coulda thunk a massive government boondoggle wouldn’t be taken advantage of and would have cost overruns? I mean it only happens 100% of the time.

Just curious.
Did you meet already Bidens admin goal to have at least half of the cars EVs?

Our family already well exceeding that goal LOL.
I have one EV and 2 plug in hybrids.
My sister household has 3 full EVs and one ICE.

Do you have guys similar situation in your household?

Currently = 5 EV + 1 PHEV in extended household

We have EQB & ice Sienna now.

I’m planning to pick up a Mini SE when I can get the color & trim I want for around $15-16k. (There are some in that price range, but not the color I want). I’ll probably get a used BMW i4 when my son comes back home.

We’ll keep the ice Sienna for roadtrip, but any future car will be ev unless it’s a bucket list weekend car :p.

5 cars/SUVs and a truck. We are not yet at half PHEV/BEV and might not be for some time.

EQS, Prius Prime, and CX-70 PHEV here. Got a Prius Prime for my mother-in-law and for another 5-6 friends too. In our case federal and state incentives definitely tilted our purchase decisions towards EVs and PHEVs…

1 BEV and 1 HEV, and more likely to replace the HEV with a BEV in the future than to replace the BEV with an HEV/ICE.

Son has a few years before he gets his license, and I’ll likely just get him whatever used car is cheapest to buy and insure at the time. :money_with_wings:

I have one. Shit, they leased me a $85K car for the price of an entry level Civic. I’d have to be crazy not to get one. Which is what everyone here has done. To paraphrase Willie Sutton, EVs is where the money is, right now.

But realize this is about as unrepresentative of a group as possible. If you knew nothing about cars other than what you read at LH, you’d think 97% of all new cars sold were EVs. It’s also a group that is overwhelmingly represented by California/Coastal East and high income. It’s like asking people in NYC, do any of you guys like the Yankees? Pretty sure I know how that poll goes. Ask the rest of the country, you’ll get slightly different results.

I don’t agree with mandates either… but if not for the push, the legacy OEMs wouldn’t have moved this fast. I think eventually they would because of the move to EVs outside the US.

And I think everyone forgets that the growth in Tesla wasn’t because of Fed credits (they had run out), it was because of more affordable EVs (the Model 3) and more desirable vehicles (the Y).

If the CyberWedge was $39k as promised, Tesla would be selling those without credits like crazy. The largest volume selling EVs outside the US are low price ones.

This is why the Model 2 would have been a better decision, but someone was going for flash and profits.

All the EVs “selling” well right now are the ones with the cheapest leases (like the Bolt from years ago).

50% in vehicles (2), but 99% in mileage. The gasser is parked most of the time, the EV is used for all local and long-distance trips.

Agreed. Teslas don’t lease well yet they are number 1 in sales because of having lower prices that match up or beat equivalent ICE cars.

I just saw an article that the 2025 ID.4 drops the small battery and now a base FWD model starts at $46k. I mean that’s absurd. Without rebates, no one’s going to touch what is effectively an EV Tiguan which starts at $28k.

If OEMs can get to price parity between EV and ICE without incentives, I think EVs will take off organically.

I need to say, while my Ariyas were purchased with an intent to try out EVs on something cheap, I do kind of like it for commute. Won’t travel anywhere further than 100 miles. But it’s not required. I do believe the program at least achieved the goal of “introduction” for the wider population beyond enthusiasts to EVs. While I don’t expect EQS’es to stay at $300/m, I do believe EVs are here to stay as a cheap local transport for a while.

Ford would also be a few billion dollars richer. :rofl:

One EV and two ICE. I’ll be getting another car this summer for my teenager and not sure what to get, but I’d like to get him a 24 month lease to get him through high school, so it’ll probably be an EV or PHEV. I guess that’ll be 50% then.
