EV’s never had great residuals to begin with, but only leased well due to five-figure lease incentives in addition to state rebates. With barely any cars currently eligible for the federal tax credit which was passed onto lessees, and the new laws apparently restricting lessors to claim tax credits, I don’t think we will ever see those again. In addition, while the residuals on EVs have been higher than usual, the money factors on those leases have been 5-11% APR equivalent, if you find the right credit union you can find financing in the high 2s to low 4s.
Tesla always had a bad lease, the net-price on a Standard RWD is roughy $640 p/mo before applicable taxes and fees, they have undervalued residuals and uncomfortably high money factors, before the 10k price hike, they money factor sat around 5.24% APR equivalent with like a 6x% residual.
EV or not, mostly a better time to buy.

This is a steal given Chattanooga-built 2023 ID.4 qualifies for the full $7,500 tax credit through 12/31/22, and there’s no sales tax for EVs in NJ and you get $2,000 in Charge Up. Can’t get an AWD EV for less!
