Dumb Penfed Question

Disclosure: I have never used a Penfed incentive before.

Last week I went on TrueCar/Penfed and signed up for the car buying service. I DID NOT open an account with Penfed.

Today via email I received an offer code for $1000 off a Jeep or related vehicle. I was generated a specific offer code, and I included the verbiage from the email below.

Is this the infamous Penfed incentive? Can I use this without formally joining Penfed?

———

“As you consider your next new car, we want to inform you about an exclusive $1,000 Bonus Cash offer available to you on Jeep vehicles through the PenFed Car Buying Service.

Not interested in a Jeep? You can still use the $1,000 towards other select new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, or Alfa Romeo vehicles!”

In this case, it’s a moot point since the $1000 TDM code from Jeep doesn’t stack with the penfed offer (which is also only available on a purchase)

But let’s say there was no Jeep tdm for arguments sake.

Is this Penfed code something I can legitimately use with a dealer for $1k off?

If you have a code, then you are good. If you have a ‘marketing email’ then you need to give PenFed $5 and open the account.

Yes, if you’re purchasing. It’s just the Truecar TDM code.

Ok awesome - thank you. Yep I do have an actual code. I always thought you had to actually open an account with Penfed to get a discount so this was a nice surprise email to see. It’s valid until April too.

Did you go through truecar website then?

Just be careful about purchasing a Jeep. You might get underwater in certain models.

I believe the order of operations was I went to Penfed’s website and clicked on their “car buying service” link which then brought me to TrueCar.

From there I put my email address in, but did not set up any type of account with a password, nor did I actually open a checking/ money market account with Penfed.

Yep, I doubt I actually use this coupon considering it’s purchase only. But hey, should Stellantis do something crazy in March (they won’t) with incentives maybe this coupon comes in handy.
