Does it make sense to pull together wiki post that lists the typical doc fee by state (or max allowed) and any relevant notes?
For those who are searching regionally, it can impact the deal significantly as it can easily eat into 1-2% of the discount vs. a lower capped state like NY.
Brand dependent
MA is 450-799 generally
I used to never see it exceed 599 but now I see 799
Yeah… just a range like that is a good starting point and if there is a cap in place.

Would be curious to see the ranges throughout the country.
CT is free range with average of $699
NY capped at $75
Someone’s done it already…
I can say that if any have changed recently (PA), they haven’t been updated yet.

Doesn’t seem right.
Shows for CT Avg reg fee $105 while at the dealership min I’ve seen $260 (avg $300)
The list contained DMV registration fees. I didn’t see list of dealership fees there.
Swipe left in the chart. There’s more to it

While it is important, normally dealers will adjust the discount based on the doc fee

It doesn’t really matter, in my experience NY’s neighboring states have higher discounts that more than offset the uncapped doc fee.
NY’s cap is more of a mirage and has almost no bearing on whether the overall deal will be better or not.

And states with lower doc fees just lead to dealers adding on more BS addons, such as unlimited blinker fluid refills.
