Dealer tax on rebates?

,

I’m trying to negotiate a lease on a BMW I3 in Northern California with the minimum amount down. Most of the drive-offs are in the $1900-2000 range (first payment, $995 acq fee, $550 registration, other ticky-tack stuff). One dealer has a line item called something like “tax on capital cost reduction” and it’s almost $1000. The salesperson i’m dealing with is not no proficient. He can’t explain it. He thinks it’s sales tax on the $11,500 in rebates ($7500 federal, $3000 loyalty, $1000 OL Code).

The fact that this dealer is about $900-1000 off from everyone else, I’m assuming this is just an error. The only other explanation would be the other dealers are waiving the acq fee. Can anyone shed light on this? Everything I’ve been doing so far is by phone, so I’ve gotten nothing written.

You pay tax on rebates. OL code is off the sales price, so it’s not taxed.

Thanks. Then the difference must be that the current dealer is charging the $925 acquisition fee and the other dealers are waiving it.

If they are waiving the acq fee, then the MF will get bumped up .0005.
