I’m surprise you’re the first person to mention this. I’m quite sure that the last car I bought a sign something saying that I would agree to fix up any terms, or at least address them if they had made a mistake. My guess is the OP has little leeway accordingly. But it’s just a guess and I’m often wrong.
You should do what @jeisensc said and post PII-redacted copies of the two contracts here. Then we can really help you towards the best outcome.
If the dealer rolled you, will be deserved karmic justice to roll them back.
Do it the Argentinian way
#GermanSZN (not the really really bad kind)

They updated the taxes, which resulted in a slight change in the monthly payment.
My concern is is a lease date.
And the total payment amount doesn’t reflect the first month payment which I already paid.
This level of payment discrepancy I would probably tolerate. Looks like a genuine screw-up. I would not tolerate harm being done to me in requiring an extra payment or another year of reg.
What exactly are the 1,000 in fees they “snuck in”? Can you show that line item?
You likely have the right to return the vehicle. That offers you some decent leverage here. You can’t be in in NY and NJ. Which state did you buy in? And which state for reg?
Might want to ask the forum if it’s actually a good deal, too.
Excellent point. What BMW did you try to lease?
Please don’t have the number be a 3.
If it’s NY (tagged as NY and NJ), we have 2-year registrations, so OP will be in the middle of a registration cycle in month 37. I forget the NJ cycle, but I know the inspection is a 5-year inspection waiver on new cars.
If it’s NY OP would be entitled to a second year registration refund upon plate surrender.
Or, OP could transfer to the next car. That’s what I’ve done, so my registration cycle was nowhere near the lease cycle, especially after I did a pull-ahead back in 2019. I had a September registration and a May lease before I bought out the car.
So the main issue is that them adding another month results in you having to pay additional registration fees? And possibly driving around without warranty for a month?
Those are legitimate concerns.
If it was me, I’d stick to my guns. I leased for 36 months. I want a 36 month lease. Period.
If they can’t figure out how to do that, I’d let them know where to pick up the car. Driving it for a month and putting on miles is on them.
The $1,000 being “snuck in.” Sorry, that’s on you. I wouldn’t address it. Being tired and not reading the documents is not on them. Focus on what is.
4 hours in a dealership. That’s pretty typical.
Who keeps leased vehicles full term anymore?
We don’t even know the car but I would bet on positive equity in the lease.
(unless it’s a $100K+ EV, they are stuck)
I don’t understand the issue.
-It looks like they’re asking you to pay $3.57 more to address the taxes. That seems ok.
-You haven’t confirmed that they’re asking you to pay an additional first month’s payment. Since the 1st lease contract is void, you would probably only be paying the $3.57 difference for the 1st payment and the 20 days you’ve had the car would have been free.
-Some people have questioned whether 37 months vs 36 months impacts your registration renewal but since you haven’t addressed that point, I’m guessing that is not an issue in your state. Even if it were an issue, the dealer likely hasn’t registered the car so your registration date would be the beginning of the revised lease.
-The car was already a demo so having a lease that starts 20 days later shouldn’t impact your warranty. Also, BMW has a 4 year warranty so unless it was punched more than a year ago, you will still be under warranty.
-As others have stated, you agreed to the $1000 extra fees. You shouldn’t be able to relitigate the contract due to an administrative error…especially since you likely signed an agreement to act in good faith to correct administrative errors.
Unless my understanding is incorrect, sign the new contract with a $3.57 higher monthly, pay the extra $3.57 for the 1st month’s payment, be thankful for having 20 free days usage of the car, and move on.
Seems to be a BMW based on the tags, but statement is correct nonetheless
Corrected the post. Thanks.
If I had to guess, it’s the $1,000 in fees that he regrets paying and wants to unjustly make up for. Otherwise, this is a total non issue.
So how did it all work out @maxtan???
No ~$3 a month difference is not an issue.
Let me summarize it.
The original contract started on June 3rd.
I paid for the 1st month ~$1200 + other fees when I picked up the car.
The new contract start date is June 23rd (this means my lease is extended by 23 days which translates into ~$800) - this also can be interpreted as ~37 months lease.
There are 10 days between 23rd and 3rd which roughly translates into $400 and dealer wants me to pay for the next month.
So it is $400 and 37 months lease.
Like @mllcb42 said “The dealer expects me to hand over cash to them” plus extend my lease for nothing.
@mattevan I will reconnect with the dealer on Thursday and will post the outcome.
I am on vacation with my family and the dealer is on vacation ‘till Thursday.
