If you’re going to put 6k down just do a one pay. Will reduce your effective payment by a decent amount.
I appreciate the advice. Any idea how to calculate the difference on that? I guess I can ask the dealer
Rate Finder (a $15 subscription to Leasehack) is a great way to find real MF and residual values for your car, including a difference between one-pay and regular leases. You can use it to compare the numbers you get from the dealership. Lots of dealers mark up MF from what the manufacturer offers.
Never rely on the dealer to help you optimize the deal. Should never talk numbers with them without knowing what they should be.
As others have said check out the calculator. Recreate your existing deal and then check the one pay option. Your quote doesn’t look horrible for 15k miles but never put that much down.
Thanks. So I found another dealer willing to put a new car into loaner status making it eligible for further incentives. The MSRP is $400 more but the new terms are $6k due at signing, $599/month. Everything else the same. One pay will save me $1250 if I decide. Are there any downsides to one pay besides forking over all the money upfront?
For folks to fully evaluate, post your best attempt at recreating their offer in the LH calc.
For feedback, best to post calc or provide more details.
In any case, as @mllcb42 alluded to, you really need to establish your target before engaging dealers. What pre-incentive discount do you see others achieving on here? That, combined with whatever incentives you qualify for, should yield a target deal for you. Have you established a target?
I thought I included most of the key information in my original post. Honestly my target was to get a better deal than I was quoted by 2 brokers which I have been able to achieve by a decent amount without factoring in any broker fees.
If anyone is interested in my original deal that I posted lmk. The dealer is in CT. It’s a silver vistiq luxury, grey interior and captain chairs.
There are plenty of discussions on one pays on the forum. If you have the money laying around it can be a good option. Calculate the rate of return on that 1200 savings and decide if it’s a good investment based on your situation (remember it’s savings not interest income that will be taxed if you leave that money in a money market). You can structure a deal however you want. You may be using 6k down for comparability but you can easily have them structure that same deal as zero drive off.
Seems a bit steep to me.. effectively a $850/month deal. But if you’re happy with it, are in a hurry, or just sick of working with dealers.. then go for it.
Steep based off 1% rule or other deals ppl are getting for the Vistiq. The time crunch is only the EV credits expiring.
Just based off other deals.
We got ours 12k/24 months for like 16.5k one pay. A few weeks back.
I would expect more aggressive deals the last week of September or even in October / November. I wouldn’t let the expiring EV credits force your hand. Manufacturers are going to adjust their pricing accordingly after the expiration.
That shouldn’t be a factor in your decision-making… there will be a lot of units needed to be produced after September 30 to amortize all that R&D
This doesn’t exist. Trying to base anything off of it is a useless endeavor. It doesn’t hold up to even basic scrutiny.
