Can’t blame them for taking the shot but definitely an atrocious number.

Irrelevant. That’s likely on a base car and probably has some center contribution (which they’re not obligated to honor but is often minimal in any case)
It also would be excluding tax, reg and doc fees.

Yep thats the point. He literally got something worse then advertised special, which is known to be crap.
Never did i ever say the advertised special is good. Not sure why everyone takes things so direct here.
I think that’s the absolute bare minimum that you could ask a dealer to contribute to a deal so to me it is irrelevant.
We have no issue showing a customer how much more of an advantage (or not if so the case) they would have going with us at the end of the day.
