Umm. So where’s the rebate? Baked in to discount? Doesn’t look great even for TX if so.

Thanks Eletric. no rebate or if so its in the discount which is BS. I have a corporate sales program via my job that would be worth up to $3125 althought it really wouldnt do a dent in total payment.

That incentive covers your tax, doc and tags easily so it does help.

It would bring it down to 463 from my back of envelope math. Thoughts on that?

Aim for $36-37,000 sale price before incentive.

Here is the latest

Ah, AutoNation, the worst dealers to work with.

$415 is total DAS? May not be too bad…

I’ll check the numbers in a few.

I wanted to ask, as a resident of TX, why aren’t the deals as good here? I’ve noticed dealers aren’t coming close to some of the pre-rebate discounts that you see on here.

In Texas, no tax credit, no leasing. $415 a month you can bring home 2019 BMW 5 series loaner.

Yea, $550 is a lot for a 3-series loaner or no-loaner. My $62k new 530e in Houston is $480/mo before BMW CCA rebate. If there are no tax credits on the 3, you should definitely pivot to the 5, even if it is a little less slick than the newer 3. Which is another decent point, the 3 is brand new so maybe they’re not willing to discount as steeply. Also, what is Road and “Bride” tax? Are you getting married too?!

Road and bridge?

TX deals are hard without tax credits. On my recent 4 deal, $70/mo of my payment is just sales tax since I capped those.

Leasing in Texas can be comparatively expensive versus other states, because Texas charges 6.25% sales tax on the entire negotiated value of the car (less trade if applicable). So if you bought a $100,000 car, you’d pay an extra $6,250 in taxes. In most states you’d only pay tax on the monthly payment. For example $6.25/mo if your payment were $100/mo.

Taxes have a particularly outsized impact on your monthly payment, because they cannot be residualized, meaning that you will pay 100% + interest on the taxes if you roll them into your monthly payment whereas you will pay, for example, 40 cents on the dollar for the actual car (as you only pay for the depreciation in a lease).

To put this outsize effect into perspective, $1000 in additional options on a BMW 530i/e currently costs about $9/mo for 36 months whereas $1000 in taxes costs over $30 a month!

The converse of this type of tax treatment is that when the dealer has tax credits, you can literally pay $0 in taxes, which then makes leasing in Texas better than other states, which is understandable since our state is so great anyway.

Also, do some more searching, I think you’ll find dealers in Texas are willing to cut a great deal when you find the right one on the right day.

False…well…partially.

You pay sales tax on agreed value of vehicle less incentives, less trade tax credit.

So let’s say base model 440…

  • MSRP $51,200. (This only matters for RV purposes)
  • Agreed selling price $40,750 before incentives.

Incentives…

  • $ 5,250 (Lease Cash)
  • $ 2,500 (Loyalty)
  • $ 1,000 (OL Code)

Your taxed amount:

  • $32,000
    ($51,200 - $10,450 | $40,750 - $8,750 = $32,000) x .0625 = $2,000 sales tax up front or $60/mo all by it’s lonesome if capped.

I’m in a state not as bad as Texas but I feel your guys pain on taxes, they charge 4.25% on sales price plus 2% monthly usage tax.

Where i am its the 6.25%+2.00. Total of 8.25% Most dealerships (BMW) around here dont give tax credits. What are your thoughts on the 415 for the 330 loaner?

2.00% is municipal and does not get charged when purchase or lease car. This is why some cities charge tax on leases ala chi-town.

thanks, for some reason i thought it was municipal+state.
