DC area pretty dead here

, , ,

It seems like most stuff here is CA, FL and NJ tristate area. Just wondered why there is so little going on in the DC metro area. I can’t even find a tag for it. I’m trying to find an Infiniti Q50 Red Sport but there’s nothing around that I can see.

I think those with “DMV” acronyms are speaking to Delaware/MD/VA and surrounding areas, FWIW.

It’s a tiny geographical area, are there even dealerships located within its limits?

Obviously MD, VA, PA, etc is where you’d need to look.

After Curtis Chevrolet closed, the only dealerships IN the District of Columbia proper were Martens VW and Volvo. All the other “DC area dealers” are in MD or VA.

Like your question, I tell people I lived in DC for 15 years, when in fact I was in Arlington, VA (which at one time was part of DC) :man_shrugging:t2:

It’s a state thing. We’ve had posts just this week from deals inside the beltway.

Driving 2-3 hours north for a deal isn’t crazy. People ship cars all over the country.

DC, MD, VA

For those perhaps unaware:

On July 9, 1790, Congress passed the Residence Act, which approved the creation of a national capital on the Potomac River. The exact location was to be selected by President George Washington, who signed the bill into law on July 16. Formed from land donated by the states of Maryland and Virginia, the initial shape of the federal district was a square measuring 10 miles (16 km) on each side, totaling 100 square miles (259 km2).[20][b]

While there is a DelMarVA peninsula, that is not the DMV. Delaware is a state (famous for tax free shopping) one drives through going to/from NJ.

In general there are not a lot of Infiniti activities here.

NoVA deal

Using the VA tag

And the MD tag

Admittedly not everyone tags everything correctly, but that region seems very active.

No one drives Infiniti in DMV, only BMW/MB/Porsche/Lambos/Ferrari/Maserati etc. lol

Taxation without representation

Inside the district, absolutely. It’s not just a plate slogan.

While everyone thinks DC should become a state, they could have retroceded to MD years ago. Elenor Holmes Norton won’t live forever, her voice deserves a little downtime, however possible.

By DC metro area I mean DC, MD and VA. I don’t expect to find anything within the district itself. I live in northern VA which is lumped into “the south” but it’s not very south. I guess it’s a Mason-Dixon Line thing since MD is considered northeast.

I’m not averse to schlepping to PA for a decent deal.

Not too many fancy cars like that around here unless you visit hookah bars where all the gulf students hang out.

Maybe @HN308 can help, his name came up after a search on here looks like he does Infiniti in your area.

He PM’d me, thanks.

I just tell my clients get a $40 rental car and my dealer returns it for them. Easiest way to get an out of state deal…

DMV area don’t do many leases because of tax situation (taxing the whole amount of car upfront). In the past 5-6 years I gone to area dealers 3 times and ended up buying because lease numbers suck with tax rolled in (or paid upfront). During the same time I leased 2 cars from CA and shipped here. Tax savings paid for the shipping.

As for no good cars in DMV, why would anyone drive a $100K car, or be the most envied/hated person in the neighborhood, only to get scrutinized annually on their security clearance or background check?

There are plenty of supercars or flashy cars ($100K+) in the area, they are just mostly in Loudoun County, or hidden along River Road in Potomac or Old Georgetown in Great Falls. There is a monthly car rally off Red Rum Dr. in Ashburn consistently with 30-50 Ferrari’s, Lambo, McLaren, etc…

How? We have the same crappy situation in Texas, but even if you lease out of state you owe the same 6.25% sales tax on the sales price of the leased car so out of state doesn’t save you anything.
