CX5 Grand Select deal... Had to walk away... Thoughts?

I’ve been eyeing the CX5 GS and did some research on it, went into the dealer today… Last sales day of the month/year, I expected to get a halfway decent deal.

Even after working with them over email the first pencil when I arrived was full sticker, which really put me off…

I’ve attached the FINAL deal they offered me which was barely 3% off MSRP. It shows $1200 down but that was just their gimmick to try and get to my ideal payment(which they didn’t)… I was planning on only doing first month drive-off.

All feedback and advice is appreciated, this dealer basically told me that 3% off MSRP is the best they can do and let me walk. Keep in mind this place has a $599 doc fee, sucks I know but I’m in the FL panhandle and it’s a fact of life.

I was shooting for around $325 with first month only at signing, but it wasn’t happening.

I have done loads of these cars for people. That is not a good monthly payment. You should be aiming for 9%-10% off MSRP. I have done Sign and drives on a 33/12k for just under $300 inc 9.5% tax.

What about GA dealers?

This is the move. Talk to dealers in Atlanta

Ed, I’ve seen you post about getting these CX5 GS deals before. I’m in Pensacola, FL and this was what I thought was a volume dealership here in town. They had about 35 CX5 on the lot… Why on earth, on the last sales day of the year, would they tell me 3 percent is as low as they can go? How am I expected to get a 9 to 10 percent discount when the largest volume dealer in the area is letting me walk. Can you suggest any dealers in your area? I’m only a few mins from AL and couple hours from MS and LA. This dealership was awful, I’m really disappointed about the experience.

Maybe they hit their target for the month, they do not need to deal. Just because someone in LH will get a certain price, does not mean it can be replicated all the times.

I’m also in panhandle trying to get any small suv for my mother. Dealers here have a different reality. Ford, Chevy, Buick, gmc, Honda, Subaru all not happening. I’m going to try again on Jan 2- delivery on that day still counts for their end of year.

The Panhandle is probably not a very competitive market and the highest volume dealer might not be very high volume in the grand scheme of things. The small Mazda in my town has 44 CX-5s in stock, and focuses on low volume high profit. Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana probably aren’t going to have very good prices either, so you should focus on ATL dealers or maybe even going up to NoVA.
