Credit card Hackr (sign on bonus, maximizing points/miles tips and tricks)

Anyone else ever have the AMEX Zync card? I still have mine in a drawer.

Still a top 3 most attractive AMEX card ever in my opinion. They tried to make the Platinum companion card similar, but it’s much more dull. I hope they make a metal version of that Zync card with a $1500 annual fee and load it up with benefits. Offer current platinum holders a free upgrade for the first year.

No, but I still have a Blue Sky.

Worst Amex card I ever had.

It’s being discontinued, and in January I will be saddled with (transitioned to) a Cash Magnet card.

As if 1.5% cash back is going to make my thighs sweat.

Has anyone linked a non-Bilt card to earn points? Any restrictions on how points can be redeemed if I don’t have a Built card?

Works just like any of the airline dining rewards programs and I’m not aware of any restrictions on redemption. They get access to all of your credit card transaction detail and presumably find ways to monetize it. Old adage in the tech space undoubtedly applies - when you are getting something that costs money to provide for free, you are the product.

This seems like double-dipping.

How many different times can the same information be shared and still have monetary value? Isn’t that what the reward program that my linked card already does?

I have this with Spectrum, where they give me subs “for free” (or pre-paid) for all the major network aligned streaming services, many of which is purchased for annual discount last year on black Friday. I keep Spectrum because their internet is less expensive than Google Fiber, their TV package is competitive with YT TV or DirectTV stream and the last couple of Springs, it has been easy to make some money flipping new Samsung phones.

The free subscriptions to HBO/Peacock/Paramount +/Disney/Hulu and most importantly ESPN Unlimited have been a bonus.

Fair question that it would it be interesting to know the answer to for curiosity’s sake, but from my side my data is already out there so if someone wants to give me points to try to resell it again :man_shrugging:

Is it worth keeping the gm rewards card? Used it for the sign up bonus but since it’s a one pay that’s paid off already not sure if I should keep it. I don’t see any benefits at all after the SUB.

Any harm in closing the card so soon? I figured by the time my 2 year lease is up and have to do hard pulls again for the next lease my score should have recovered by then.

Age of credit history is 15% of your score, so closing an account that was recently opened will bring the average up. That said, if your average age is already 5+ years then closing it won’t do anything. Depending on the issuing bank you should be able to product change it to something that may work better for you in terms of rewards. Especially if it’s a card that you’ve already received a SUB on.

See for yourself what your credit score and credit report is and find out. Each one of my credit card issuing banks offers it for free, as well as my credit union and all three of the bureaus

Each time I apply for a new card I get a half dozen emails telling me about the hard inquiry about 30 seconds after I apply

Please note:

A phone agent was able to give me a manual $100 credit, but if you only read what’s above the enrollment button you could easily miss something in the mouseprint further down.

I’m actually not sure how I missed this, because I recall reading a long passage containing Ts and Cs to see if the credit only applied if you made a reservation through Resy (not a requirement, the restaurant only has to be listed on the Resy platform).

AVANT is inside the Rancho Bernardo Inn.

The rest:

Enrollment through American Express is required to receive this benefit. Only the Basic Card Member or Authorized Account Manager(s) on a U.S. Consumer Platinum Card® Account can enroll in the benefit in the Benefits section of their americanexpress.com online account or by calling the number on the back of their Card. Enrolled Basic Card Members can earn up to $100 in statement credits each quarter when the Basic Card or Additional Cards on the enrolled Account are used to pay for eligible Resy purchases. However, each enrolled Card Account is only eligible for up to $100 in statement credits each quarter, for a total of up to $400 per calendar year in statement credits across all Cards on the Account.

Eligible Resy purchases include purchases made directly from U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app and accept American Express® Cards, purchases made directly on Resy.com or in the Resy app, and purchases made via Resy Pay. Restaurants must be live on Resy.com or the Resy app at time of purchase to be eligible for the statement credit and are subject to change at any time. Purchases of Resy OS restaurant management software, and Resy-branded American Express® Gift Cards are not eligible. Gift cards purchased at restaurants or purchases made on-site at events when the restaurant uses a third-party to process or submit the transaction to American Express (e.g. restaurant invites an outside merchant/non-Resy restaurant to sell goods at the event) also may not receive the statement credit.

Please allow up to 8 weeks after an eligible Resy purchase is charged to the enrolled Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. Please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 8 weeks from the date of purchase. American Express relies on the merchant’s processing of transactions to determine the transaction date. If there is a delay in the merchant submitting the transaction to American Express or if the merchant uses another date as the transaction date, then you may not earn the statement credit benefit for the benefit period in which you made the purchase. For example, if an eligible purchase is made on December 31st but the merchant processes the transaction such that it is identified to us as occurring on January 1st , the statement credit for the next benefit period would be applied if available. If you have transferred to a different Card at the time the merchant submits the transaction, you may not receive the statement credit. Statement credit(s) may not be received or may be reversed if an eligible purchase is returned, refunded, cancelled, or modified.

American Express also relies on information provided to us by the merchant to identify eligible purchases. If American Express does not receive information that identifies the transaction as an eligible purchase, the Account will not receive the statement credit. For example,

the transaction may not be eligible ifit is made at a merchant located within another establishment (e.g. a restaurant inside a hotel

or department store), it is for a non-dining purchase (e.g. Resy-branded American Express® gift cards or merchandise that features Resy branding or is sold at Resy restaurants), the merchant uses a third-party to process or submit the transaction to American Express (e.g. using mobile or wireless card readers), or you make a purchase using a third-party (e.g. a third-party payment platform or food delivery service).

If the Card Account is cancelled or past due, it may not qualify to receive a statement credit. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide statement credits and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If your Card is enrolled in the benefit and you replace your Card, please check the Benefits section of your americanexpress.com account, mobile app or call the number on the back of your Card to confirm your continued enrollment in the benefit. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

trying to use my Amex Plat credits before year end. this past weekend, went to lululemon in store and bought a $75 physical GC. Had brunch at a Resy restuarant, and used up the remaining incidental amount on United travel bank.

All the credits came rolling in within 2-3 days.

I don’t get any use of the hotel and equinox credit - last year I got a massage for myself and partner at equinox gym but heard that no longer works.

I wanted to use Chase Sapphire Reserve Stubhub Credit. So I bought two broadway tickets for February using StubHub.
As it turns out, I have to fly out of country the same day. Can I just sell those tickets using StubHub and still keep the CSR credit?

Of course, you can even buy a ticket you wife’s selling to get that credit lol

I’ve got several miscellaneous Amex personal platinum and business platinum credits that I’m not going to be able to take advantage of, if anyone’s interested let me know.

Also several Amex offers for AT&T if anyone has cell or internet service.

The $600 Platinum credit is pretty useful if done right. For example, Hilton has bought some random boutique hotels and resorts all over the world and if you have an Amex Hilton Honors Aspire card you can get free nights (if it is not on the Hilton no stay list) and then use the Amex Platinum Fine Hotels credit of $300 (semi-annual) on the rest if the hotel/resort is one that is listed as eligible.

Amex Platinum often will give you another $100 or more to use on the stay for food, drinks, etc. as well.

Can you combine $300 Fine Hotels with $200 on Hilton (Bussines Plat)?

Yes, or at least you could a few years back when I last did that unless they nerfed it for the double dip.

Does anyone here use this?

Specifically I’m trying to cut down on the amount of time I spend reviewing all of the merchant offers (“spend $325 at Viator get $35 back”) across all of our cards.

Yes I have a lifetime sub. Its great. Doesn’t help you spend less time looking at offers but it does help you get them organized in one place.

Can you explain that a bit more? Do I still need to log into Chase, Bank of America, Amex, US Bank, Citi, blahblahblah and add the offers, or can I view available offers from the app and add them to each respective card?

There are so few offers that I actually use that just having a list that I’ve already added to each card individually isn’t going to help me much.
