Costco Volvo May 1-June 30th

Volvo withdrew it’s financial guidance so anything is possible. But cancelling the EX90 and switching south Carolina over to XC90 production seems odd. They are going to spend the better part of a year retooling a factory to make a 10 year old design? Or the 8 year old XC60? Doesn’t seem like you do that unless you are committed to keeping the current XC90 in production through 2030. But I’ll admit my views are colored by my disdain for the current XC90 gas engine. I always charge my XC90 since I don’t want to drive around town with that course four banger noise.

Of course, Volvo is ***** so while definitely not a way to make money it is perhaps the way to lose the least amount of money.

Only curiosity is that when they pulled financial guidance for this year and next the CEO said:

The automotive industry is in the middle of a very difficult period with challenges not seen before,” Samuelsson said. “While we still have a lot to do, our direction going forward is focused on three areas: profitability, electrification and regionalization.”

Seems dishonest to mention electrification and then cancel the new EV you just spent a billion plus dollars developing.

Agreed. Their demographic target is perfect. I think they could even make it cheaper. No need to have a 500+HP. Make it 300HP with smaller electric motors.

Volvo as of Samuelsson returning is dividing their business into regions. There is a new sheriff in town for Volvo NA & SA.

That isn’t their problem, they will just blame it on the outgoing C suite. Also they’re already said they plan on moving one of the two models into SC

FWIW, Jim Rowan was an awful choice for them. He did some things good, but A LOT of things bad.

Up to 3%, depending on the model.

Post Costco, most deals are a wash, which was we all expected.

Still deals to be had, hackr friendly or not.

compared to where audi / bmw / lexus / MB are, volvo is still very much affordable.

Audi doesn’t import cars now, just hopes and dreams

But without a firm time frame or stating that it would be the current generation of either model.

I am mostly pessimistic because at a time when Volvo is trying to achieve 1.8 billion dollars of savings/cuts over the next two years are they really going to commit hundreds of millions of dollars to retool a factory? Especially when the tariffs situation is so uncertain.

Time will tell. But I do think Volvo will make a decision one way or the other by the end of the year. Longer they wait the less sense it makes to bring current generation XC60/90.

Aren’t the EX90 programs still pretty bad? Havent even seen brokers advertise.

No I meant like neither the S60 nor the S90 are going to be sold in the U.S. going forward (saw an article on the S90 refresh recently saying that it will not be sold in the U.S. market.)

In short, just trying to rationalize the lack of support for sedans in the sense that they are not part of the Volvo “active line up” here.

I think in the short run the writing on the wall is to blow out EX90s, right? I don’t think they’ve pulled this lever, but that’s one way to band-aid the situation for now while waiting on retooling and whether or not you want to invest $ to do a new non-EV…

Can they technically put the Recharge powertrains into the EX90 body? Or the EX90 body above the XC90 chassis? Not sure they can, but that is one option in the medium term…

I’d assume they can’t do it without almost completely changing the platform.

The EX90 isn’t an electrified XC90.

Correct. Volvo Scalable Product Architecture 2 is an all electric platform.

Getting a gas engine into the EX90 platform would mean building (the much needed) 3rd generation XC90.
