I am in Knoxville and the dealerships are small, not volume dealers. They are a little tough to negotiate with since their inventory is small. Toyota was saying for a 4Runner Off Road, they can’t go any lower than $675 a month with $1500 down and won’t share MF or Residual… This all being said… can anyone share their experience purchasing from a dealership in another state? Specifically, I would likely target vehicles to Atlanta, GA. My understanding is I would only pay TN state sales tax on the lease payments as long as I took delivery on the vehicle here in TN. I know I posted about a Toyota, and I am still not down in the trenches on negotiating, but my top 2 vehicles are an Audi Q5 premium or a Volkswagen Atlas SE w/ Tech. There is 1 Q5 premium in Knoxville, but I don’t like the light interior, and no Atlas’s that have black interior. Thanks!

Don’t be afraid to ship cars, it’s not terribly expensive and is rather easy.
I’d be shocked if that were true. Every state I know of will tax the lease at their own rate regardless of where it was picked up.
Yea I agree with max, I think you’re misinterpreting the tax law. If that were the case then everyone in TN would be stupid not to buy their cars from out of state.
In any event leasing out of state is rather easy as long as the dealer isn’t completely in the stone age. IME most of the Atlanta area dealers are well versed in out of state deals. I’m in NC and my last Audi came from Audi Atlanta, they handled everything with regards to NC registration and taxes.
One tip though, just be patient, in most of my out of state deals it can sometimes take the dealer 2 or 3 passes before they get the taxes 100% correct.

When you ship, you just pay the tax in your state (where the car gets shipped to), correct?
So can you tell me how taxes worked out with getting your vehicle from Georgia?
To clarify my post, I am not concerned that TN taxes are high or on the total sale price (my last lease was in Texas where they do this), I simply can’t find inventory here. I want to avoid getting double taxes, not avoid a higher states tax. Thanks
Any dealer in a nearby state who knows how to handle TN registration should also know TN tax and you shouldn’t be double taxed.
Ofc always do the math independently to verify.
