Buying out a lease

If I want to buy out a my lease but put someone else’s name on the title is that possible without paying sales tax.

Tax evasion no no no. & not possible.

It’s my car I am giving it to my cousin

Unless your state does it differently, you still have to pay tax on the buyout amount when you buy out a lease even if you keep it for yourself.

The payoff amount included taxes

If I buy it then get the title then go to DMV to change title I’ll have to pay sales tax again.

If that’s the case, I’m not sure why the leasing company would care if your name or your cousin’s name was on the title after the buyout. The only gotcha you may run into is I believe some companies (IIRC my wife’s old Honda had this) charge different buy out amounts for the lease holder versus a 3rd party.

What you’re talking about doing has to be done the following way:

You purchase vehicle from finance company. Your buyout will include sales tax.

You register and title the vehicle in your name with your state DMV.

At this point, some states (e.g. WA) may allow you to “gift” the vehicle to someone with a supporting letter that will enable them to register it without paying tax. No money is allowed to change hands which by definition means there cannot be a loan on the vehicle.

Otherwise, your cousin must buy the car from you after you register it and pay taxes when he goes to register it at the DMV.

Most finance companies will only sell to a dealer for one amount or to the lessee for the designated buy out.

california allows you to resell the car within 10 days and be exempt from sales tax on the first purchase.
